Fanon tries to survive, we've been hit hard when Luna was not the shy character we thought she be. Then Sparkler is Dinky's sister.
Finally this happened. There's nothing to back up fanon now. Fanon is fanon and canon is canon. We still have our fanfics and pics. |

^You realize kids don't tend to look EXACTLY like their parents, right? Do Rarity and Sweetie Belle look exactly like their mother? Does Twilight look exactly like hers? Of course not. Dinky and Derpy look similar enough for a relation to be plausible. |

They already told us that Derpy as of Season 2 plays a "Where's Waldo" role most of the time (instead of just being a random background character randomly chosen to fill space). All this means is that apparently they will shape shift her to continue it.
As for fanon, this means nothing. The people who really like Derpy/Dinky (not me BTW) can just ignore this as just silly Derpy shenanigans, or integrate it as Dinky having another sister. |

I think Kanashi1kage's post makes sense. The animators are going to stick Derpy in anywhere as an easter egg even if they have to shapeshift her so she's not too obvious. I think this "filly" appearance might just be something we have to ignore for now.
And who cares? Who honestly cares? Dinky's a background pony. Her entire characterization is fanon. Hell, so was Derpy until she was given this new where's waldo role, and even then she's still just a background pony...just slightly ascended from random character palette. |

In other words, it really doesn't matter whether they've shared screentime. As far as background ponies are concerned, the fandom can come up with whatever they want, and sometimes those ideas become widely accepted. |

I see this as the simple animation gag it is. It was clearly not meant to be a message to the fandom to stop considering Dinky Derpy's daughter.

@TwiTwit I don't want do drop the fanon per-say, but fanon is to be based on canon. All I see is people trying to force there little OC into canon and basically telling the shows crew that 'We prefer our story to yours. Make it like this instead.' |

Based on canon, sure, but it doesn't have to adhere super-strictly to even simple animation gags like this one. :/
Besides, we know we don't have that power. If the show's crew comes out and says "Dinky and Sparkler are biological sisters", we will incorporate that into the fanon. If the show's crew comes out and says "Dinky and Derpy are NOT daughter and mother", we may be sad, but I'm sure most of us will accept it. This? This is just an animation gag. This episode's Where's Derpy moment. All they did was make her younger so she wasn't ridiculously obvious since they decided to place her here. |

There is no canon for background ponies. Why do people never remember that? "Canonically" Derpy, Dinky, Lyra, Bonbon, etc., are souless scenery. It is only through fandom that they have any notability whatsoever. |
