How does one tell if a character is showing signs of being a mary sue? Just saying "perfect character" isn't a realistic answer to me... There must be better signs then jsut that... |

@288 Exactly! Also just because a character has a tragic or rough backstory does not make them a Mary Sue. God I REALLY hate that term. |

In all seriousness though, I think your hatred of the term is unwarranted. Possibly you're reacting to people who throw the term around whenever they see a fic they don't like for whatever reason. Let me just say straight away that I don't agree with those people. This comic, however, just screams mary sue to me. Tragic backstory (yes, this is just ONE of the requirements), considered "different," not bitter at all despite being crapped on by basically everyone. Granted, it's not as bad as some, but it's bad enough. |

If the artist goes on to make him and AJ a couple, then there will be no doubt that he is a mary sue. That said, I think the artist knows better than that, so he/she'll do something horribly trite like AJ letting him down gently, followed by him learning a valuable lesson about moving on with one's life. |

In all fairness, his background isn't completely screwed - he had a loving supporting family.
@679643 Maybe Granny Smith decided Manehattan was an awful place, AFTER Applejack came back home and told them about it. Also the reason for his rough life is explained by him being ostracised for his lack of cutiemark. That said, yeah; It isn't the most original of stories, but it certainly isn't the worst either. |

Thank you TobiasKazama! You pretty much understood what's going on. Though I may not be the one with the story idea. I like it and I try my best to put it in comic form. I know I have my flaws but people seem to like it and I do too so I will continue with this story and I'll keep giving it my best.
I want to Thank all the people who understood and didn't just hate on it. Regardless if you consider it a Gary Stu or not. It's a comic that I do for fun and people seem to enjoy it like I do. So if you gotta hate then hate on me ^-^ |

Indeed. By definition, a Mary Sue fic is a story where the maine character can do no wrong, and saves the universe from destruction without a hitch.
