Derpy and Dinky never even appeared on the same scene, did they?

that's not the point. it doesn't matter if they are canon. that's what fanon is for.

@5976 Nope. There is no evidence to back up this fanon. But let them believe what they want to believe.

There is already canon there that supports the possibility of of two adult mares being mother and daughter. Remember the scene with Rarity, Sweetie Belle, and their mother? And that's all not to mention that Faust said herself that it only takes 2 years for the ponies to fully mature physically.

@128

I think the problem most people have with Derpy/Sparkler is that they look totally different.

With Rarity's parents you can see the genetics: Rarity and SB have their dad's coat and mom's mane, and SB's mane has her mother's coat's pink it in.

tl;dr fanon overanalyzing

^Indeed, that. There is not one pair of siblings that looks so dramatically different in the show. It's difficult for me to believe that Dinky and Sparkler are biological siblings. The fanon posted above makes the most sense to me.

Sparkler is Screwball undiscorded.

When Twilight asked who was fgoing to take her in, Dash quietly pushed Derpy to the front from behind.

That's mah story and ah'm stickin' to it.

My headcanon of this is a little more complex - Sparkler used to take part in the Sisterhooves every year as a filly with her older sister.

Years later, when Sparkler's sister moved to chase her unicorn-dreams in Canterlot, Sparkler grew up missing her, and most of all, the Sisterhooves Social participation, her fondest memory.

Meanwhile, Derpy gives birth to, and rises, Dinky. Dinky really want to take part in the social (and even practiced her pie-eating skills with Derpy's muffins!) but the judges wouldn't allow it since they were mother and daughter, and not technically "sisterhood" material.

Then Sparkler and Derpy meet up and form a plan; the judges allowed Sparkler and Dinky to compete as "sisters", since they had grown up more or less together and became rapidly good friends. This meant Dinky fulfilled her dream of competing and Sparkler got to relive her childhood again.

@TinTwit

Apple Bloom And Applejack.

That is all, and Dinky is slightly purple. So they're equally similar.
