They're actually tinted gauze wrappings, wrapped tight to flatten the tail hairs. Easy. |

Underneath the hair, tails are pretty skinny. Binding the hair up without resorting to just shaving must have been hard, though. |

Oiled down with brilliantine pomade, wrapped in smooth gauze, then the tailsock slid on, then the gauze unwound. Taking it off is a snap, slides right off the tail easily. Different takes require redoing the tail over and over, just to keep the continuity. Pomade comes out in the spa shampooing... |

It's not as hard as you think. Google "horse tail wrap" and look at the images. A lot of owners will wrap their horse's or pony's tail before a show to keep their tail clean.
Pony tails are just really, really poofy. :) |
