is "oc getting beaten up" an allowed interaction with a canon character? |
| Kawa #638468 8 months ago |
Yes. |
| Anonymous #638469 8 months ago |
It's still some kind of interaction.
The main question here... do you think it could happen? Anyway it's and OC and will be hated anyway. |
| JP #638481 8 months ago |
Dash did kick the dragon, so she can act violently if the situation really requires it. But it still feels somewhat OOC. |
| RepentantAnon #638486 8 months ago |
*stands on a soap box*ALL OCS MUST FACE THIS BURDEN: TO BE HATED UNTIL PROVEN WORTHY OF SOMETHING ELSE! THEY MUST FIGHT FOR THEIR STATUS IN THE COMMUNITY! PURE INTENTIONS SHALL CULL THE BEST OF THE BEST!
FOR THE EMPEROR!- no, wait, wrong speech, fuck... |

How OCs can stop being hated: By not interacting with canon characters. |
| Anonymous #638671 8 months ago |
Male Pegasi: You are such a speed clopper.
RD: O.O...... *SLAP!* Male Pegasi: OW! What was that for?! Random voice: Level up! |

The problem with Original characters is that no one knows how to use them properly. Most fic writers have one Original character that they just try to jam into story, which is always a total disaster and unreadable piece of garbage. Mainly because it's pretty easy to see as a self-insert in denial.
The key to making good Original characters is a process that requires patience, lot's of it. You have to ease an original character into a story slowly. Have them start off in minor roles only viewed from the main (Canon) characters perspectives. Eventually make those little interactions a little longer and then gauge the audience reaction to it. If they like it or are impartial to it, then start making short dedicated scenes from their perspectives. The lynch pin to good Original characters though is just that: charactER'S, take careful note of how the word is plural. Have more then one of them and for the love of god do not favor one over the other, the moment one hogs the spotlight is the moment where all the hate is festered. And finally one must remember that Original characters are only there to fill in the gaps, for the most part anyway. Just remember the reason fan fiction and fan comic's exist is because people like the characters that are already there(Well, once again, for the most part). They want to see more of the characters they already know and love, not the annoying adventures of some original character(s). So to you would-be writers, I hope you learned something here! |

Gotta love this fandom and its Jim Crowe Laws for OCs:
-OCs are not allowed to be shipped with canon characters. -OCs are not allowed to be better than canon characters at anything. -OCs are not allowed to eat in the same facilities as canon characters. -OCs with high aspirations are just being "uppity OCiggers" and need to be taught their place. -OCs are to be met with suspicion until proven innocent. |

@510.. Faust OC has to abide by this? then again.. i think her OC is an exception to all these rules. |
| Anonymous #640147 8 months ago |
@ #640010
Certain OCs are exempt because they've earned people's respect. Take Fallout Equestria for example. The characters are so recognized that people often forget to put OC tags whenever fanart is posted because the term automatically triggers negative connotations. |

Fandom OC's are the bottom of the food chain. |

I don't get this strip at all! A real OC wouldn't come out with a load of sexist leering tripe in the first scene! It'd emerge via the author's own words, typically during a whining OC's self-pity in scene two. Bonus marks if all that tedious getting to know her stuff was skipped. Mane 6 character's reaction ideally similar, but it never is.
/not sure if describing bad fanfic or the Internet |

Jesus Christ I hate you people. |

She's hitting an OC and you people are still bitching, damn. |
| Anonymous #649211 8 months ago |
#147 Well Fallout, being an RPG, can take the introduction of OCs with less fuss. Even when it's diluted to "post-nuclear war" and spray-bottled over top of some horse puns to fake being a crossover. |
