Y sure, element of generosity, needed a lesson about how to "give" in a relationship |

Being the element of generosity doesn't make her an expert at knowing that virtue. But it does fit her when she feels like being generous. She was still willing to cut off her own tail for Steven Magnet, and she even got dirty - heaven forbid! - for her little sister's (and earlier, Twilight's) sake.
Consider this: Twilight's the element of magic, or arguably, the element of friendship (the terms seem interchangeable). Yet, in both cases, she still rigorously studies magic, and still has to learn about friendship, sending letters to Princess Celestia about what she's learned about it. In fact, Twilight and Rarity seem to both be exceptions when it comes to the elements, since what they embody in terms of harmony is something they need to work at. Applejack's pretty darn honest (she, in fact, is very bad at lying), Pinkie Pie is never seen without a smile (unless her insecurities are attacked), Rainbow Dash sticks by her friends no matter what, and Fluttershy is usually kind until pressured otherwise. |

Understand, people: Rarity is selfish - she's very selfish. She hates that about herself, but it's who she is. And it's that that makes her the element of Generosity.
It's true when they say that nopony can be brave unless they actually feel fear. Nopony can truely be generous unless she is selfish. It's Rarity's drive to overcome her flaws (and it's very hard for her to do so) that make her the element of Generosity. Same with Dashie, in fact. Dashie is, by nature, always looking out for Number One. If she has to work hard to be loyal to her friends. The very fact that it doesn't come naturally is what makes Rarity and Rainbow Dash so special. They are working hard every day to be better ponies than they were yesterday. I think we could all learn a thing or two from them. |
