She dove in when Sweetie Belle wasn't looking. It was only supposed to be unknown to Sweetie Belle that Rarity was in the mud, everypony else could've known and it wouldn't have changed anything. |

FRiNKEL's got a point. All Rarity would have to do is jump in while Applejack was offering to team up with Sweetie before the race. She could even come up for air whenever Apple Bloom said "just one day!" |

Since she was covered in mud, she still would have blended in fairly well if she just poked her head out to breathe through her nose.
Heck, Applejack probably watched the entire race while sitting in the mud, only going under just before she jumped out. Sweetie wouldn't have noticed because she was focused on the race. |

Hmm... but she can't have jumped in earlier, not could she have come back up for air at that point; somepony else at the social would've noticed and got Applejack and Sweetie disqualified if she had.

It's not just Rarity's lungs that are impressive, but Applejack's ability to keep her torso, front legs and head all completely mud-free despite being submerged for at least five minutes. |

I always imagine that you just get spells related to your talent right away, if you want other spells you need to learn them, which means that Twilight (For example) probably learned illumination and levitation and other simple things when she discovered her talent, but her talent is magic in general meaning she can easily learn it. omo (Even non unicorns get these powers, but can't LEARN other ones. :I ) |
