I wouldn't say Rarity is a "young mare". She's an adult mare, while her mom is more middle-aged. |

Mayor Mare is clearly in the older female pony category. Older than the mane 6, probably somewhat older than Rarity's mom. Yet she has the same basic shape to her face as the mane 6.
It's probably just a matter of keeping in shape. No offense to either of them, but Rarity's mom and Mrs. Cake are both a bit chunkier than average, lol. |
