Derpy appeared as both a filly AND an adult while Twilight was a filly, so there may be time travel involved. We also don't know if Sparkler and/or Dinky is her biological daughter. She might have adopted Sparkler when she was a teenager, and dinky is her Biological daughter. Also, Applejack and Sweetie belle are not sisters, so we don't know how strict the rules are. That might have been a family friend, a relative, or a member of the pony equivalent of big brother/big sister. |

meant to be a comical funny style semi-BG pony. Not the struggling single working mom that is ostracized due to her eyes from fanfiction. Take her at face value and enjoy her looniness this season guys. |

Who the hell cares?
If you want them to be sisters - go on. If you want them to be mother/daughter - go on. If you want them to be completely unrelated - go on. It's not like any amount of ranting/flamewars will change anyone's headcanon. The word 'fan' comes from fanatic. This applies to both of the sides. And it's not like Hasbro cares which bacground pony goes where - they only open their ponies/bgchar folder and take random ones, whichever matches. Here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9jEFtQMSkA , she appears normally, while the timeframe is "long time ago", and later described as before founding Equestria. So we have: a)Random searching ponies/bgchar, b)Time travelling Derpy, c)Different ponies looking the same way. Note that each can also be applied to Dinky. |

Derpy was shown full-grown in Twilight's flashback in Cutie Mark Chronicles. Therefore she is a decent amount older than the mane six.
She was probably close to the cutoff age for the competition. |

Yeah, this is kinda how I feel, too. But that's apparently wrong. You should be thinking about canon and only canon according to some, even if you CAN distinguish the difference between the two and be reasonable about it. |

Fanon is fine so long as it doesn't decide that it's better off without canon to support it.
The thing with widespread fanon is that it's more widely accepted then any ones random fanfic. I'm fine with fanfics occasionally moving uncomfortably far away from canon, but for the widely used fanon... Well I don't want anything that's widely used to directly contradict the truth that is canon. That just makes it uncomfortable. |

Maybe there is more than one Derpy. Hear me out. Consider the fact that Derpy has many appearances which would imply various age ranges (such as Twi's flashback during Cutie Mark Chronicles, the Best Young Fliers' Competition, Apple Bloom's showing off at school during Cutie Pox). Could there be a wall-eye disorder running about?
