Huh, that's interesting
qith the addition of 8 as a factor, that only furthers my headcanon that the money is dichotomized (did i used that word correctly?) in bits>bytes>kilobytes etc... lol
however, she implies that there ISN'T something like that and bits are just bits.

...damn, all that must be tough to carry around..

I tried to figure it out but came up with 1:5 ratio based on the price of apples, two apples being two bits it seems.

@NightJack: This information comes from the fact that 1 bit does, in fact, equal half a quarter in the real world.

That don't exactly mean a bit in equestria is the same as that, and I was basing my guess on the price of a pound of apples at the stores where I live.

That tends to be about 2-3 apples a pound.

^ Pony society seems to based around the 1890s or therabouts (steam engines, city-wide hot water, lanterns and vague electric lighting coexisting, etc.). A 25-cent pie doesn't seem too odd in 1890's dollars.

Damm! This ask tumblr is almost making me like Silver Spoon more than Diamond Tiara, this can't happen! Also, I wonder what happened to Italo. It's lonely to be the only DT/SS fan around here...

All I know is, those Equestrian-grown apples are probably the best-tasting apples you'll ever have and are worth their weight in gold. Any price is a bargain for them.

So ponies use the pirate method?

"Pieces of eight" is so called because it was 8 bits to the dollar.
That is why Americans sometimes call a quarter dollar "two bits".
