their cutiemarks are not same
and why sisters can't get same cutiemarks? |
| elementofchaos7 #631118 8 months ago |
A lot of background ponies have similar cutie marks. |
| Questionmarktarius #631196 8 months ago |
Berryshine is plausibly Berry Pinch. |
| Kos94 #631211 8 months ago |
She can't be! Berryshine is a unicorn, Bery Punch an earth pony, they're different races! |
| Anonymous #631310 8 months ago |
Berryshine is Berry Punch's elder sister. They are the daughters of a unicorn distiller and earth pony vinter, explaining Berry Punch's daughter being a unicorn through recessive genes. While Berryshine helps run their family's countryside vineyard and distillery, experimenting with different brews and distillations, Berry Punch runs their bar / wine shop in Ponyville while raising her daughter. |

^that's a quite good explanation. |

Like it or not, I'd say these are pretty much the official names for the background ponies.
As to why Hasbro decided to recolor some of the mane characters...I don't know if they were just lazy or if it was their way of saving time and money. |

Berryshine is alternate-universe version of Berry Punch. |

@anon 437 Hasbro may like the fandom, but they're not going to spend a lot of money just to make special molds for background ponies. They just reused the molds they already have, namely those of the main cast. As for why the character cards also sport recolors, it's either A) something else done to save money or B) The person in charge of designing the character cards was lazy.didn't care. Most likely answer is A, as they would have to have gone and designed a reference image for the background pony in question. That means either taking the time to contact Studio B and get one of the flash models from them or to get their artists on drawing an image with the show as a reference. With Studio B, that also means having to wait the time it takes to respond and send the image and if they don't have a good reference pose for the character, then they would be back to square 1. With using the reference images they already have, they can just recolor them, slap on the appropriate cutie mark and call it a day. Also, if the character on the card doesn't look like the figure, then you'll probably confuse some people.
As for why they used Rarity's mold for Berry Punch's toy expy, I could only guess. Pinkie would have been better, as she's an earth pony and her mane style is similar to Berry's. My guess would be that the Pinkie mold lines were full, so they had to pick another mold to produce Berry with. |

@Drasvin: Interesting. |

Even though I would agree that these toys are meant to represent the background ponies, Hasbro's choice in using a unicorn mold for Berryshine does open the possibility for her being our Berry Punch's sister or other relation, which to my mind means more fun for us bronies. |
| Anonymous #631903 8 months ago |
No, Hasbro is entirely in your imagination. Laugh at it, go back to bed, and it will go away.
Seriously, though, all the bronies have to remember is that the branch of Hasbro that handles the animation contracts and the branch that actually designs the toys are separate and apparently don't have any real requirements to talk to each other. Studio B is not in any way able to effect the output of the factories that make the toys, and the animation is probably ignored because it was not expected to be relevant. Yes, I know. Boo, hiss. |

Palette-swapping Rarity is a good way to create the second-best pony. |
