Watching fans trying to rationalize keeping their fan names (e.g. "Hasbro got the details wrong, so it's not the same pony!") is absolutely hilarious.

Stop it, guys. Seriously, stop it. Yes, the names suck. Yes, Hasbro is trapped in the 80's. Fanwank will not stop them from being stupid.

@#629311: That's not what I'm doing; I just care which names are official. I'm all for the usage of Golden Harvest and Heartstrings (and still Lyra; that name's semi-official because of WeLoveFine), but Berryshine, Meadow Song and Noteworthy look too different to be ponies from the show (and I don't mean because they're recolors).

I'm just not gonna let myself be trolled. I'll call her Lyra 'cause to me, that's her name.

I'd say changing from an earth pony to a unicorn and having the design in general (colours and hair style) completely different is a bit more than "Hasbro got the details wrong"

They didn't use the fanon names because of legal reasons. Trademarks etc. Google it fillies.

@Heinous: That, or the "The names that Hasbro produced can be adopted as their last names" seems to be the most sensible reactions to the whole of Blind Bag.

I actually ike the names Heartstrings (for a last name) and Berryshine (as "Berry" Punch's full first name, aka her legal name is Berryshine Punch even if no one calls her by that).

Unfortunely, Berry Punch can't be Berry(shine) Punch because Berryshine is a freaking unicorn.

Their names involve Berryshine, Golden Harvest, and Heartstrings.
And Big Mac and Blues are mares.
There are pickup trucks in Equestria.
Celestia is pink.
Vinyl Scratch is faint yellow.

All of the above come from Hasbro. One is actually true.

See, the Transformers fancommunity has had to deal with exactly this problem, where information presented on the toys doesn't match with characterization in the show. They solved it by declaring that the toys were alternate-universe versions of the show characters, and I don't see any reason why that can't work here too.

Yes Anon5, that's kind of what the Internet is for. Let us background pony fans have our little funk and when we've come to a common compromise and "cooled off" we can move on. This is going to be bitched about so it might as well be bitched about in the appropriate place.

Making capslocked baby noises isn't helping anybody, but hey, that's another thing the Internet is for. Paraspriting!

^ The Polish translation (I think it's Polish, and maybe a few other languages as well) of the toy packaging accidentally refers to them as 'she'.
