Hahahahah, that's a very good question. All I can say is that with the creation of a fandom, people think it's acceptable to be derivative and uncreative by exhausting their energy into making fanart. Then, they'll try to justify this waste of their time by drawing things that aren't too related to the original source, but add a coat of paint to it that would make it so not only they seem "creative", but also ensure a built in audience to appreciate this work. Some artists do this only to build up a reputation and then go on to do original work, but most don't. It's pathetic.
Believe you me, I won't be drawing this stuff forever. |

I was under the impression that the way this started was, the bit in 'Call of the Cutie' where Apple Bloom loads up Bon-Bon with apples, plus the bit in 'Swarm of the Century' where the parasprites eat Lyra's pie and she looks devastated by it, led to a 'Lyra likes eating a lot and Bon-Bon likes feeding her' fanon, which was picked up and expanded upon by fat fetishists. |
