also guys I dont think Hasbro legally could give the characters the fan names, as that would be taking from fanficton and fanart and such and the names therefore legally don't belong to them and they have no rights to use them.
Basically, by coming up with fan names, those fan names can never, ever, ever be official. |
| Jackarunda #627040 8 months ago |
I fuckin LOL'D |
| StreakTheFox #627060 8 months ago |
@Fuzzy
Actually... fan names are just fan names. We can never claim absolute ownership of our fanart or fanfiction if it uses copywrited material from some other source. i.e. we can never make real, currency profit from anything we write, draw, or produce that has copywrite claims on it. so, on the flip side... Hasbro CAN use fan names, because these names are not legally copywrited, as fans created them of their own free, non-profit wills and have no means to copywrite the names for themselves because the fans are not able to copywrite something that has other copywrited aspects in it. So, Yes, Hasbro can use fan names. |

Fanfics aren't legally protected
nothing we make is |

shit, ninja'd by StreakTehFocks

| PikaRobo #627068 8 months ago |
^But they didn't.
:3 |
| Fuzzy_Logic #627071 8 months ago |
Has nothing to do with legally protected or not, they simply can. not. use. content. from. fan. projects.
Lauren herself has stated this, you guys! Also, depending on who made it and where they originally uploaded it, man, many things here are protected under Creative Commons. Technically anything you throw on the internet is protected, especially with a thingy like THIS: Images © their respective owners Found at the bottom of this very page. |

^^ It's actually unknown if they have the right to use fanon names. Such a thing has never been challenged in court. And Hasbro certainly doesn't want to create a precedent by being the first to do it.
A judge could decide that since fanon is based on Hasbro's property, they own anything fans create. That would be bad for fans. On the other hand, he could decide that whoever came up with the name "Carrot Top" has the right to that trademark and Hasbro has to pay him/her to use it. That would be bad for Hasbro. Both scenarios would suck and hurt the fandom's relationship with Hasbro. Better to sidestep the whole issue by not using fan creations at all. |
| StreakTheFox #627079 8 months ago |
@Fuzzy
Okay. I can understand artwork and how we create that. But who made up the name carrot top? Who made up derpy hooves? Hm? Do you know? Does anyone know for sure? No, they don't. Therefore since no one is able to claim ownership of such names, then the names are therefore, essentially "up for grabs." However, since Hasbro has ownership of the show and the fan names never really were given a creator, then they can use it to their liking. You're right. Anything on the internet is protected. It's just a matter of who protects it first... |
| PonyPuffy #627085 8 months ago |
^This, besides "Lyra Heartstrings" "Berryshine Berry Punch and "Blues Noteworthy" do make for good names.
Dunno what you could do with "Golden Harvest" though |
| Fuzzy_Logic #627086 8 months ago |
No, they don't. Therefore since no one is able to claim ownership of such names, then the names are therefore, essentially "up for grabs."
I'm sorry, but that's just not how it works. |
| PonyPuffy #627092 8 months ago |
I was agreeing with Anon #075 |
| StreakTheFox #627094 8 months ago |
@Fuzzy
Then how does it work sir meistro? Please, do tell. |
| Anonymous #627106 8 months ago |
I can personally see her as not just being Golden Harvest. But Golden Harvest the V. Not really wanting part of that little family lineage, our carrot farmer decides to buck the trend and use the name 'Carrot Top' instead. Though her parents will never ever use it.
It makes the family reunions really awkward. |

Wait wait wait wait wait...
cmon bronies... this is silly. Let's all go back to the main Ponibooru page and keep clicking the main link to refresh the page, or pressing F5 as we wait for more ponies. Let's not argue here. It don't matter what we say cuz what happens is outa our hands. Let's just... Relax and enjoy ponies |
| Anonymous #627147 8 months ago |
we clearly need to boycott these...abominations until Hasbro hears our voice. I already heard rumours that some brony got the guts to send Hasbro hate mails and court summons.
They were rumours so i dont think it might be true. Could it? |
| Anonymous #627161 8 months ago |
Hate mail? They probably get tons.
Court summons? I fucking doubt it. Unless he's a moron. |
| Anonymous #627163 8 months ago |
^that works for me.
And I still don't know whats going on. And don't none of you fucking tell me either, sounds like i might hurt something over it. |
| Anonymous #627171 8 months ago |
^ Hasbro released blind bag recolors that resemble some of the background pones if you hit yourself in the forehead with a brick first. So Adrian decided those were their new anon names. |
| Anonymous #627174 8 months ago |
^ Canon names.
Fucking keyboard. |
| Hellfire #627377 8 months ago |
Cartoonlion, make more of these, less Fluttershy w/cock please. |
| Ferrotter #627390 8 months ago |
Celestia fucking Christ, folks. Canon hierarchies were worked out by Trekkies and Star Wars fans ages ago.
What is seen in the show is canon. We have seen it, it must be true. What is read in official character/setting bibles is canon (unless contradicted by the show). What is stated as categorically true by the creators is canon (unless directly contradicted by the show and the creator didn't explain why that's the exception that proves the rule -- example, Han Solo shot Greedo first, and Lucas can get stuffed). What is read in the novelizations, if it does not contradict the show, is canon (unless the show or another novelization later contradicts it). Peripherals like the infamous "technical manuals" are only canon insofar as they don't contradict observable canon from the show or novelizations. (For example, one manual said a Star Wars blaster pistol had the firepower of a small nuke. Some dipstick plugging in numbers and terms he didn't understand to write a throwaway book on a tight deadline didn't suddenly make Han Solo kill everyone on Bespin when he shot Vader's hand.) Toys made by Chinese child laborers who've never even seen the show and speak armost no Engrish are even less canon than that. So, the toys are what they are, and if anyone wants to believe those are the official names, more power to you. But they're only official until something that actually means something comes along. If it ain't in the show (or Word of God from one of the staff of the show or the production character bibles), it's not truly canon. |

Solution # 10:
All the fanon names exist in Derpy's mind. (Hence why she has two names as well.) |
| Anonymous #627630 8 months ago |
^#627062
That would be like putting horsheshit in a safe. |

You guys will quickly learn to avoid arguing with Canti... I mean fuzzy. He isn't a good person to talk to. |
| Vree #627719 8 months ago |
^I have never seen anything too bad from him/her. |
| Vree #627724 8 months ago |
As much as I have seen a certain Anon tell people to do that on 2-3 other pages. |
| Anonymous #627735 8 months ago |
He won't be that bad here because we don't have much to argue about. |
| imnotgivingmynametoamachine #627792 8 months ago |
@Fuzzy Logic
"Has nothing to do with legally protected or not, they simply can. not. use. content. from. fan. projects. Lauren herself has stated this, you guys!" And yet DJ-PON3 kept her fanon name? |
| Anonymous #627794 8 months ago |
^ Totally deniable. Bet it's "DJ Pony" on the script. |
| MetalHooves #627837 8 months ago |
^ They said DJ-Pon-three in Equestria Girls.
Also, I'm just gonna enjoy the comic. XD |

also, What the HUB says and what Hasbro says are two totally different things... |
| AppleDashWINS #628209 8 months ago |
At the DJ-Pon3 thing, she appeared for like 5 seconds. The script probably just said
(A DJ pony starts up the music. Pan to silhouette of SPIKE.) but anyway. LET'S TALK ABOUT THE PICTURE. non-futa stuff from Cartoonlion? do want. |
| nemryn #628356 8 months ago |
Streak 094: The way it actually works is, because nobody can claim ownership of the fanon names, Hasbro will never be able to contact the owners of the names and get permission to use them. I know it's backwards and messed up, but that's how corporate lawyers see things. |
| Latias4Ever #628888 8 months ago |
... *Eye twitches.* Let me guess, we're going to replace the BG ponies' good names with the new shitty ones? ...You can all go fuck yourselves... |
| nemryn #629093 8 months ago |
Really, though, can't we just say that toy canon is different from show canon? Nobody seems to have a problem with keeping the canons of all the different generations separate. |
| Anonymous #629637 8 months ago |
Aw, they renamed her? But I really liked the rap. |
| Anonymous #630075 8 months ago |
Well that was actually quite an insightful discussion there guys, but I do agree with Ferrottor, the creators are god and whatever the fandom comes up with is inadmissible (not sure if that's the right word). |
| OptimusSleepy #632228 8 months ago |
Switching back to normal ponydom: What's more interesting is- what does Carrot Top have in the plain brown wrapped package bought with the McLovin'ly fake ID? |
