Unicron above the double helix, basic DNA stand at the end, and her knowing about genetics because of what she read in childhood is an IMO kind of dumb attempt at character building. Fluttershy is the Equestrian equivalent of a biologist, you don't need to explain why she knows about genetics.
Otherwise, very informative! |
| CallMeAl #624497 8 months ago |
My sentiments exactly, Pinkie Pie. I'll try to make sense of it again in the morning. |
| ChickNeighney #624499 8 months ago |
Reminds me of the Asari. |
| JP #624509 8 months ago |
Hm. Sounds reasonable. |
| AdrianBrony #624510 8 months ago |
okay, but how does a stallion actually carry a foal? do they use a third party mare to carry? |
| Jackarunda #624512 8 months ago |
Ha. Fuck no. |
| AdrianBrony #624517 8 months ago |
wait, duh, yeah they do need a mare to carry, read it again. |
| Anonymous #624527 8 months ago |
And yet, it's still simpler and makes more sense than Pokemon breeding. Mostly because there's no Hot Skitty on Wailord Action. |
| Karadros #624546 8 months ago |
1) Makes complete sense.
2) I thought AdrianBrony left? |
| Anonymous #624551 8 months ago |
It makes sense for Fluttershy to know all this since she takes care of animals |
| Anonymous #624557 8 months ago |
Can't believe I read through it all... Two mares conceiving a colt? Where's that Y chromosome coming from? Or maybe that's why there are more mares than stallions.
While science-y stuff is cool, couldn't the gender-mixing stuff be just left to,"it's magic, I ain't gotta explain sh*t"? |
| Glord #624562 8 months ago |
And Pinkie needs to lie down for a while.
Very informative. I have no idea. |
| Glord #624567 8 months ago |
@557 I can only assume that the artist was tired of questions about how Pinkie and Flutter could have kids and wanted to drop some jaws in the process.
Something like that maybe. |
| elementofchaos7 #624580 8 months ago |
So in conclusion...magic, I guess. |
| BlueYoshi #624619 8 months ago |
Man, that's a lot of information. O_O
Overall, after reading all of this, my reaction: ![]() |
| WingbeatPony #624676 8 months ago |
Yeah, makes a lot of sense to me, but then fridge horror kicked in when I realized that (following this logic) there's a small chance of earth pony foals being born in Cloudsdale. Where the ground is made of clouds. |
| Anonymous #624709 8 months ago |
^
Thank you.So very much. |
| Anonymous #624721 8 months ago |
Oh, well that makes sense, actually. |
| Anonymous #624743 8 months ago |
Wingbeat: You can put the horror back in the fridge when you realize that the pegasi already know this and don't have their kids up there. |
| Anonymous #624745 8 months ago |
I think I just made the same face as Pinkie in that last panel... |
| Anonymous #624746 8 months ago |
Are you all in middle school or something? This is pretty goddamn clear. |
| Anonymous #624749 8 months ago |
One thing that it's easy to miss is that pegasi and unicorns are more common among females than males.
And people wonder why we refer to Equestria as a matriarchy. It's right down into their genetics. |
| d715 #624754 8 months ago |
^ Because horses are an matriarchy in real life
a herd's stallion is just there to watch out for predators and mate with the mares, the "Boss Mare" calls all the shoots |
| Anonymous #624769 8 months ago |
All you have to do is take a cup of Mendel
Add it to the mix! Now just take some Lamarck, not Darwin, and mutation- just a pinch! Making these foals is such a cinch, With magic compromises, You add a little more, might get an alicorn, and those are big surprises! Ponies, so full of magic Ponies, mold genes like plastic Ponies, ponies, ponies! |
| Draconequus #624780 8 months ago |
I... it all makes sense.... |
| Anonymous #624784 8 months ago |
^Arrrgh, this fandom these days. I can't tell if you're just being exceptionally clever, or if you're calling out the similarities to disproven evolutionary models as a way of disparaging this, despite it being about magical pastel equines.
I'm going to go benefit of the doubt and applaud you. |
| Anonymous #624889 8 months ago |
Wait a second. If Pegasus pony pairings can birth Earth ponies, and Pegasus Ponies can live their entire lives in the sky, even giving birth up there....thats actually kinda horrifying |
| Anonymous #624907 8 months ago |
Answer to all the questions in this page:
MAGIC *snort* *snort* |
| chromelium #624960 8 months ago |
so, how about them alicorns, eh? |

| ryebread #625213 8 months ago |
It is possible to create a baby out of 2 females. With SCIENCE.
But the offspring will always be female. Could explain it better in my language, but basically it's because females lacks the Y-chromosome. |
| Anonymous #625303 8 months ago |
2 pegasus have an earth pony? It doesnt make any sense, even with science. |
| Anonymous #625474 8 months ago |
784: 769 here. I *am* pointing out the similarities, but I know very well that this is a universe in which semitransparent bears are the size of Godzilla and there's a pony responsible for making the sun rise. Twilight's biology textbook would probably look like the fucking Voynich manuscript to most of us.
Bottom line, the OP's explanation fits the show. |
| Anonymous #625549 8 months ago |
I think I prefer the pedigree chart(s) that other guy came up with back in the spring...
Now if only I could find them! Still, this tumblrs adorable... |
| ObssN #625561 8 months ago |
@#624889
Anon #625549 here (forgot to log-in before commenting). Possible explanation #1: Pegasus instinctively go to the ground to give birth. Possible explanation #2: There is a means (probably involving magic) to determine which one a foal will be, that way the Pegasus would know whether to go to the ground when she (or he, considering the 'magic homosexual babies, bitches' stick going on here) go into labor... |
| Anonymous #626736 8 months ago |
two things on this.
other than a few regular typos, I definitely lol'd when I read "unicrons", but other than that COMMAS. using a few too many tis all. comma denotes a short pause in flow of speech. reading this in my head certain parts were timed oddly, but that's just me. Just a heads up! |
| Khenal #626932 8 months ago |
Gotta go with Pinkie's reaction here |
| Allochii #665168 8 months ago |
It's not hard to believe that Fluttershy would want to know why she was a pegasus when she was little. Since she was such a weak flier, she must have wondered why she was given wings at all in one of her sad moments. |
| HeinousActsZX #684129 8 months ago |
That was the most fun read in a long time for me. |
| -Lunacy #863898 6 months ago |
So this is now canon, huh. |
| ponypikachu #864129 6 months ago |
Science, I love you. |
