Rainbow Dash, as bold and brash as they come. A lot less sympathetic than her fellow Pegasus Fluttershy, but what she lacks in empathy and tender loving care she certainly makes up for in her loyalty and dedication.
Perhaps the greatest fear some professionals face is the fear of reaching their peak too soon in their career, to inevitably toil in a downward fall for the rest of their lives. For Rainbow Dash, this had never been more than a niggling feeling in the back of her head. Not since the Best Young Flyers Competition however, after having fulfilled her lifelong desire to recreate the Sonic Rainboom from her childhood, after heroically saving both her best friend and her heroes, and spending a whole day with said heroes, did the very real and very daunting question question begin to creep in: "what now?" Most would be content with this triumphant moment, but for Rainbow Dash there was no down in her life. The fear of falling from the top is too great and even keeps her up at nights, ignoring nap time in favor of thinking up new moves, anything to keep from falling... -Exploding_Guy |

This makes me wonder what the Wonderbolts are capable of. Do each of them have their own signature moves? It would be great if they were still more skilled than Rainbow Dash as she is.
Yeah, Dash is the fastest pegasus when she goes in a straight line downward, but the Bolts should be able to beat her at something. They are the elites, after all. We haven't had the chance to see them show off on their own yet, and I want to think that they're either on or beyond Rainbow Dash's level. |

Are you... This work... Are you really not the same artist who made those series of comics of Fluttershy protecting Angel from the diamond dog? Those are some of my favorite pieces of pony artwork in the entire net, and this piece is certainly capable of standing in the same light as those other fantastic pieces.
The way the entire background goes slowly from light to dark throughout the comic is beautiful! And then WHAM! The darkness EXPLODES into a rainbow of beautiful light and electricity unlike anything you've ever seen! The method you used made for a POWERFUL impact and symbolizes just how greatly Rainbow's determination towers over her uncertainty! Furthermore you've done a beautiful job synchronizing the feelings of an outer-comic audience that is the reader with Fluttershy, an inner-comic audience who's feelings shift from confusion to fear, then to absolute awe, and finally to pure terror. Heck, I can practically hear her desperately shouting "RAINBOW DAAAAASH!!" in one of those last panels, but leaving the words out really helps to make me imagine that last scene in pure and absolute silence, save for Rainbow's positive, living thoughts at the end. Again, this makes the scene even more powerful than believed possible. You've designed this comic so expertly that you've managed to manipulate my mind in exactly the ways you wanted and needed to here! Well done! ...Seriously, are you sure you're not the same artist who made those 3 comics of Fluttershy when she first met Angel...? PS: So, everypony! Just for fun try listening to "The Dragon Boy" from Spirited Away. For me, it fits this comic to a T! |

Remember what happened when she's pulled off the Sonic Rainboom? The static electricity that built up around her before she broke the sound barrier? My theory is that's what's happening here as well, except now she is trying to conduct that electricity through her entire body and thereby conduct herself through a lightning bolt. My guess is there is little drag since she is gliding on lightning, and that the water molecules in that cloud probably also aid in helping the electricity conduct through her better by making her damp. That's just my theory based on Pony World Science any way, feel free to correct me on my faulty knowledge. |

I don't think Rainbow Dash would be worried about her career peaking, at least not yet. There's still one definate goal she has yet to achieve, to become a member of the Wonderbolts. As long as she has that goal, she has something to strive for, something to push her forward, keep her pushing the envelop, getting better and better until she either achieves her goal, or she physically breaks. |

This has it all wrong. The secret to successfully pulling off a Sonic Rainboom is to hold both of your front hooves forward. That's why when Dash was only holding one hoof forward towards the beginning of the episode, she didn't make it. |

This is a damned amazing comic - wonderfully illustrated, with a fascinating concept about RD's hopes and insecurities that builds up some real nerve-racking tension but, thankfully, ends up with a great "next time, I pull off the Lightning Rainbolt for sure" ending. Dash may be sore and singed, but she'll sleep it off happily and scheme up some even more incredible tricks later.
And I love how Fluttershy hangs almost imperceptibly in the background of the final panel. It's a lovely touch to an overall brilliant piece of work. |

aether - a magical substance present in trace amounts all over the world. Different kinds of ponies interact with it in different ways; unicorn horns attract ambient aether to power the unicorn's spells, whereas earth ponies subconsciously connect to the aether in solid matter, and pegasi directly manipulate atmospheric aether to stay aloft and interact with meteorological phenomena.
sonic rainboom - a phenomenon that occurs when atmospheric aether is accelerated past its maximum tolerance, sublimating into a shockwave of undirected magic, light, and sound. The process is a natural result of aether's magical properties, and has been known in academia for centuries, but is generally thought to be purely theoretical. Only pegasus ponies can move aether at more than nominal speeds, and then only by actively pulling or pushing it - and as a pegasus approaches the necessary speeds, atmospheric aether generally builds up in front of her, stretched between the pegasus and its original location. The resulting rubber-band-like backwards force has proven to be too much for even the most seasoned pegasi to overcome, and has catapulted more than one green flyer into an uncontrolled tailspin. |
