I always thought she'd use something light and elegant for a weapon. Kinda wish he kept her horn and wings, but that's a personal preference.

as for the image, it's composed and shaded well, but the design is extremely simple and uninspired, and quite frankly humanized ponies are bland and ugly (and occasionally horrifying.) mind you, there's nothing wrong with the technical skills of the artist - but you are all busy overcompensating by forcing lavish attention on anything related to Luna you can find and it's really just pathetic

Generic symbol set used that isn't at all descriptive of a character that, while being two-dimensional, is still more specific than what this drawing suggests. Monochromatic, almost pillow shaded forms. Cliched choice of composition (exaggerated size of the moon centered into frame). No depth of field. Is it really that hard to break the mold of symbols that have been accepted as being part of the aesthetic that is manga? Goddamn.

The truth is that this piece is boring and hardly worth being made into a featured image. It's only notable because JJ has never drawn Luna's face before, but even that is hardly remarkable because the guy can only draw three faces anyway. That outfit looks like Prince Endymion's, a look which is oddly fitting for a humanized Princess Luna, and that's most likely what the artist was going for. This is a well-drawn, well-colored picture. Good art just going by art standards, and again the outfit is fitting for the character. To the moron who complained "A katana sheath for a rapier": Just because the mouth of the sheath is metal, doesn't mean it's for a katana. And seeing as past the mouth the scabbard blends with the background, there's no evidence it's not the same shape as the blade.

^ To continue on this, we have a couple sabers at the Ionia County Historical Society, and their sheaths both have metal mouths. Also, i think the sword's more a saber than a rapier, but looks like a rapier due to the angle. (personally, I'm a fan of longswords)
