So far, dA is the only place I've seen comments about New Luna being "non-canon" or saying that the writers "messed up completely" (followed by them using similar points as this ZuTheSkunk to "prove" their opinion on New Luna).
And of course, the main argument is always that Luna didn't use Early Modern English (not "Olde English", thank you very much) or really use the traditional royal voice at all. Which can be easily justified as her only addressing her sister--Luna pretty much explained that the only time they use the royal voice is when addressing their subjects, not necessarily when speaking with royalty. And why would DISCORD use the traditional royal voice? Seriously, I doubt he ever spoke like that. You could say it's way too formal (or, at least, it was formal a thousand years ago) for Discord to use. |

New Luna is the same Luna.
Time and circumstance change emotional states and ones emotional state effects how one acts. "New" Luna was simply trying to address her subjects "properly" and that likely accounts for all of the oddities in her speech, including the "Olde English". |

God, this is so stupid.
Luna had been Nightmare Moon for A THOUSAND YEARS. When we first see her normal form, she had just been hit with the most powerful magic known to ponydom. She was just shaking off possession by an evil force that was powerful enough to enslave a demigoddess. Is it THAT hard to believe that she might not have been acting quite like herself in the pilot? |

I like to think that Luna is actually somewhat shy, but she can't just hide away like Fluttershy does because she is a princess and needs to do things, so she hides her real self under all this "royal pretense". I'd imagine she acts much differently around Celestia than she does around everypony else. |

Well that is easlier to know if you know horse behavoir (which the creator team does) More or less horses (or in this cast ponies) are creatures of habit and get very nervous around things they've never seen before. (this is why non-horse caverly like camels were used, horses will freak out appon seeing them) Everything is new to Luna, but her sister. This is why she keeps going back to her "royal canterlot" ways even wend she knows its outdated and shouldn't do. |

Nightmare Moon was a large ham, and EXACTLY THAT did I expect from Luna. I think my prediction of her character was the most correct, and yes, I'm sounding dickish, because the majority liked to depict her as an emo. Crying a river doesn't hammer fandom invented personalities into an already canon character.
