I was about 13 when I watched this scene, and I remember wondering why the heck they couldn't detach the boat's hatches and carry them around or something... I mean, anything sounds better than 'get 3\4th's of the platoon killed within two seconds of landing and hope someone with a rocket launcher reaches the bunkers...' |

the whole operation was just a successful kamikaze/suicidal attack IMO. and they didn't really care about the lives of troops back then I guess.
After this, they started caring about those little issues and now look how much it costs for air conditioning in Mid East for troops |

@Atiarotias, It's not that they didn't care, just there was a few MONUMENTAL fuck ups, to start with bombers and ships artillery was supposed to mush up the beach, destroying a large amount of the defense and giving the boys some cover, they overshot quite a bit, The airborne getting scattered around as much as they did didn't help either. |

as for the D-Day attack? For the technology and intel available at the time... This was as good as it could be done. |

Originally, this started as a pony parody of the scene where they're in the landing craft before the beach, before everyone starts dying. The first part had no violence, and it might have ended there. But the artist was encouraged by fans to continue the comic, and here we are. |

@ Aba Actually, the airborne forces being scattered as they were contributed to the lack of organised German response. Some units were convinced it was merely a probe and thus the invaders would be easily contained, so no immediate need for a heavy handed response. |

I think it's commonly forgotten that the D-Day landings were also supposed to include landing tanks ashore, which would have provided firepower and cover. In the case of Omaha beach, I believe roughly 2 out of 30 made it ashore, hence why it devolved into a human wave.
