anthro is an animal with a human like body, furry is the fan that likes anthro related stuff |
| cyber95 #613907 9 months ago |
I suppose those would be the ideal definitions, but the actual difference is that they're spelled differently. |
| Anonymous #613908 9 months ago |
Anthro is like normal human with a different color and ears or wings or horn or something.
Furry usually has a muzzle, and sometimes hooves. And sometimes six breasts, but we don't have to go there. |

No one cares |

It's the same effing thing. |
| stormtrooper1701 #613926 9 months ago |
Anthro's a human with animal features.
Furry's an animal with human features. |
| cyber95 #613932 9 months ago |
@908: Also only in an ideal world, there would be some clear cut definition like that, but it's really not true. Anthro and furry really just mean the exact same thing. |
| makr #613937 9 months ago |
Anthro should be used for humans with a few pony features, like colors, horns, etc.
Furry should be used for halfbeasts with grotesque pony hands and whatnot. |

Anthro - antropomorphic interpretation, like toaster with face, for example.
Furry - disgusting pansexual fetish. Suit yourself. |
| Nebbie #613994 9 months ago |
Furry is sexual anthro. |
| Kata #614081 9 months ago |
Why is there so much argument?
Furry is a subtype of anthro. furry = anthro. anthro =/= furry. Put simply, something is furry only if the creator wants it to be furry. you can have 2 images that are the same, but drawn by different people, one might image be furry even if the other is not. That is why tagging stuff "furry" is a bit silly, its often too hard to find out who made it, but tagging "anthro" is always a safe bet. Yes, I am a furry. |
| Calbeck #614154 9 months ago |
Anthro = Furry who doesn't want to be associated with furries. Also used by people who occasionally draw furry material who ALSO don't want their work associated with furries.
See: "Trekker vs. Trekkie" Schism. Same thing. |
| Calbeck #614164 9 months ago |
Also, given the reality that most furry artwork produced to date contains zero sexual content (surprise surprise), "furry = sexual" is merely inaccurate data. Then again, if it were accurate, it wouldn't be useful for getting a rise out of furries, who would simply blink and say "yeah, so what?". |

Its a question about tags you dodos!
Anthro for characters from MLP:FiM universe. Furry for else. OCs are judged by trial of fucked up. Anthro Fiona would be tagged as Anthro and ponified furry persona is tagged as Furry. |
| Eco #614214 9 months ago |
The tags have no semantic difference, as far as I'm concerned.
That said, there's a connotative distinction which is difficult to describe and varies depending on who you ask. I haven't merged the tags because a lot of people care about that distinction. If you don't have such an opinion, I'd suggest just using both tags and letting the crowd sort it out. |

Anthro stands for anthropomorphic, which means human-like.
Furry means you like things that are anthropomorphic. Technically speaking just being a brony means you're a furry. There are only somewhat generally accepted loose art terms that define what is what. Some people define anthro and furry as the same thing, some do not. |
| MythTrainerInfinity #616005 8 months ago |
Anthropomorphism is not defined to just having human-like features, but rather even if an animal does anything human-like... For example talking. |
| mayanightstar #616016 8 months ago |
So if you draw a MLP character as a normal looking human, how do you tag that?
And if you draw a MLP character human-like, but retaining their color, possible ears and a tail, maybe even hooves, how do you tag that? |
| MythTrainerInfinity #617028 8 months ago |
1. Humanized.
2. Anthro/Furry |
| Millfox #623758 8 months ago |
There are several interpretations that are wrong here. Let me set it straight.
Humans with ears/tails ect: Neko (mostly anime) Anthro: Humanised animal, object ect... (furry art) Furry: Well yeah you know who that is. |

http://ponibooru.413chan.net/rules.html - "furry - animals drawn in a "human-hybrid" anthropomorphic style, or cosplay involving fursuits". |
