Mysticmcknight@hotmail.com "Blessed Trinity" "Used and abused," was the phrase that Smiley had coined, describing how most humans were treated and that was why they acted the way they did. Julian had to agree to this theory, for he surly was used and abused since he was old enough to realize that was what it was…abuse. He had only an inkling of his mother and father, but mostly there had been no one there to look after him, only overseers, and guards. He knew that it was only luck that he didn't become noticed in his youth and dragged off to be a pleasure boy, like Tom had been. Unlike Tom, who had been born on Kearth…no, Earth, that's what Smiley said it was called before the Alliance over took it. Tom was born on Earth, and was raised to be a pleasure boy, and when his services were lingering, he would have been tossed to the breeding pens and then put down, like any other animal. Julian had been born on Earth, but he was a small child when he and his parents were taken off world, and three months later, he was taken from them and sent to a quarry planet. He worked like other children, but since he was small, he was the water boy, and looking back, realized how grateful he should have been, for usually children too small for their age were put down as `runts' of the litter. He also realized that working in the dirty minds, always in the shadows, no one took notice when he started to change from an awkward boy into a man, one that some found very appealing…evident by the Intendant's interest that led him to this new path. He had escaped the mines for he wanted what most did, freedom, but he, like most, couldn't stand people, even his own, but there came to be one man that changed that, enough to give him a purpose in life. He met Smiley, who was the first person to be persistent in his belief that Julian had something of value to offer, not only for the cause, but the universe. Smiley helped him learn how to fly, and with the older man's encouragement became one of the best pilots around, or the best as he would tell Smiley, since he knew it would irritate him, in a childish loving way. He would follow that man anywhere, and did; even when it was stupid, thus his last mission that led to his being caught, and that led to his being taken by the Intendant as her latest boy toy, that led to his blindness at her hands, and almost dying as she pushed him into a twenty foot pit, only to be saved by Chakotay; one of the men he knew would always be with him forever. The other was Tom. He sat curled up in strong arms, not feeling afraid, even if he didn't see a thing, he knew deep inside that he was not alone and never would be again. He continued to examine his feelings as he and the other two men were being taken back to their new home on Ferenginar, with their new master Rom. Tom, via Chakotay's gift of telepathy, told him all about the Key Stone and how Rom believed that if he possessed the Triad, he would gain power over his enemies. Strangely, Julian's response to that was a soft laugh. The last thing he felt like was striking out…and it hit him, he didn't feel any of the things he had before all this `mysticism" as he put it, occurred. Before he felt angry to the point of hate, and fear to the point of desperation, and as he thought he realized all his fear and anger were gone, replaced with what he could only guess was joy and contentment, for he had never experienced these emotions before, but it felt good. He had changed, he knew it for a fact now, as he shifted and laid his head on strong shoulders, and felt a strong hand in his hair, and a delicate one on his arm. The only way he could explain it was that he felt whole…and that alone gave him the sense of power that he believed the Triad had, that he was part of this trinity, and the assuredness that nothing could separate them grew stronger in his heart with each passing second. //What do you think Rom will have us do? // Chakotay thought, expressing his concerns. //I think he'll try to use what he knows so far about us to hurt his enemies; the only thing I can see that will buy us time will be that he doesn't know what to do, and he will most likely ask me for my advise, // Tom replied. //What will you tell him?// Julian inquired easily. //Before I met you two, I would have handed him whatever answers that he wanted over without question, but now I know better. It's like the two of you…// //Complete each other// both Chakotay and Julian finished for the young blond. All three men silently smiled and laughed, not wanting to bring any attention to them during their long trip back to their Master's homeworld. //Why do you think the Triad exists?// Julian asked, snuggling his body tighter into the strong embrace, and intertwining his fingers with Tom's. //Well, at first I thought much like Rom did, that it was a tool for destruction, but now I know better,// he smiled. //None of us are killers, and it isn't what's in our hearts to do. Though as to why the Prophets created the Key Stone and why we were chosen to be apart of this, I can not say. // //We need to go back to the beginning, // Chakotay thought somberly. //Where would that be? // Julian closed his eyes, and let the thoughts flow through him, //as we knew one another, we will know the way to the steppingstone to the temple, where our paths will fully be forged.// All three men smiled and nodded, for it was clear to them, that this was the truth. With this knowledge to comfort them, they all settled down to rest, for all three were exhausted. ***************** Tom didn't have to wait long for Rom to come to him like he predicted, for he heard his master's voice calling his slave name trying to awaken him. He stirred and looked up at Rom who looked annoyed. "How can I serve you, master?" he asked with a slight yawn. "You can start by telling me all the three of you can do, so I can star planning my next step," Rom snapped. "I can tell you no more than what you already know, for all has not been revealed," Tom replied softly, realizing that he didn't have to lie, for his words felt very true indeed. Then a thought occurred to him as he looked to the other two by his side that now stirred as well. "The papers were only the first step. All things will occur in threes, master. The next step is…" here he faltered for he wasn't sure. A picture of a tiny barren world with three moons appeared in both Tom and Julian's mind, coming from Chakotay. //there is where we need to go,// he thought. "Trieste," Julian said, for he recognized the place having done a short stay there as a child finishing up it's last mine. "The three moons are called the Blessed Trinity, for they rise and shine and do all as one," he added. "What about this place," Rom demanded. "That is were we must go," Tom replied easily, for it was slowly becoming clear that this was indeed where they needed to go. //and why not have him take us there, it's not like we could get there on our own?// //If I could see, I could fly, but like this…// //All things have reason,// / Chakotay thought with love as he hugged his night star, and caressing his morning sun. //Did anyone tell you that you're pretty deep for a mute beast,// Julian teased lovingly. //Till recently no one knew,// Chakotay thought back, and not caring what Rom thought, leaned in and laid a soft kiss on the soft golden cheek, and smiled seeing the blush he caused to occur. Rom growled; "Stop that! It would be wise if you three remember you place and who your master is!" "We have not forgotten," Tom replied humbly, for it was true, they didn't forget the fact that by law, Rom owned them, but he was no longer their master, for deep within they all knew that position belonged to a higher power. "Set course for Trieste," he shouted over his shoulder. Then he reached down to retrieve the necklace from around Julian's neck, and to his displeasure the item would not budge. He leaned back, "hand it over," he ordered. Julian felt the necklace around his neck, and in his hands it would move, but he knew it was not going anywhere. "I would, but it will not allow me to release it from around my neck, not yet. I am sorry if this angers you." A tiny part of him wanted to laugh for how humble he sounded, for it was only a few days ago that Smiley called him arrogant, and in fact he was, even for a man that couldn't read or write his own name. Rom wasn't too happy about this, but he knew that when dealing with alien technology, for that is what he really believed this was, one needed to be patient. He gave a stern look at his three humans, and then moved back to his area, after making sure the guards secured the cargo area where he kept them…safe. ************** The land was grey and barren, almost all signs of life were gone from this once vibrant little world that is till the Alliance sucked the soul out of it, like it did to most of that it conquered. Rom did `t like leaving his guard's behind, but, when Sapphire, and Julian insisted that the magic would not work if they were there, that it still may not work with him present, he drew the line at the latter. He had gone to too much trouble to gain this power; he wouldn't let it slip through his fingers by the hand of some human. He followed the humans, Chief carrying Sapphire, and Julian holding on to the big man for guidance; the scene was almost laughable, watching them stumble their way across the rocky barren land over several hills, till they finally stopped. Julian pointed to his left, and the group moved that way for a hour, then Sapphire pointed to another direction and they traveled that way for another hour, and finally Chief decided the final direction, and at the end of that hour they came across a large pond, with three flat boulders laying in an angle to each other, and Rom though it was coincidental that there were stepping stones leading to each of the boulders. He stopped at the edge of the water and watched the three humans stumble across one set of stones to the first boulder and placed Sapphire down; then Chief led Julian to another before moving across to the last one. Rom watched in silence as the three humans took their place, and then Julian removed the Key Stone that was now glowing and tossed it into the water in the center of all the rock. "No!" Rom shouted, but he was being ignored. He was about to move when a strong sudden wind started to blow and he was kept at bay, and watched as things started to happen out on the water. From the center in the once still pond, that now rippled with life, a brilliant light sprang forth and showered the three humans in their adjoining color, Sapphire in blue, Chief in red, and Julian in green, bathing them, lifting them up from their perch, embracing them gently, like a mother holding a child. Then out from the center rose the Key Stone, the source of the light, and all three humans reached out with their right hands, palms open, fingers high and wide, and from the center of their hand the light that bathed them poured out back into the Key Stone and together their energy overloaded the item and it exploded, sending powerful waves of energy through out the area, forcing Rom to the ground, but the three were unaffected. In its place was another item, silver, in the shape of an hour glass, but solid, and it glowed with white energy. Soon the three humans settled back down to their perch upon the boulders, still entranced on the item in the center, as the winds died down, and soon all that remained was the strange item in the center, its light, and three humans dazed, and unmoving. Rom pushed himself up and moved to a stepping stone, and before he touched it, it sank. He then moved to another, it too sank, and soon, all the stones in his reach sank, indicating that he was not welcomed. This was unacceptable; the power he sensed and saw was his, by all rights, for he claimed the Key Stone. "He who possesses the power of the Triad will hold the key to the universe around them and all its wealth. It will lead you to the three that when joined will hold the power to destroy one's enemies. It is mine!" he shouted in fury. "No, it is not," the gentle voice of the blond human replied, though his eyes remained closed, and his body unmoving. "You only wish to use the Triad for evil gain, that is not its purpose," the golden human added, unmoving like the other. Rom felt his anger boil over and was ready to jump into the pond, when he saw the large bronze human shift, turn, and look at him. In that simple gesture, Rom felt his soul freeze, as if he was faced with and endless eternity as he looked into the deep brown eyes that now had him captive. He could hear his heart beating, as the universe became silent around him, and for the first time in a long time he felt fear, as he was paralyzed and couldn't move. "You only fear what is in your own soul, Rom," Julian's soft accent voice stated. "Like those who oppress and use, you were used to deliver the key to free our children," Tom added. Rom continued to be caught in the deep brown eyes, falling, not sure what to do, his soul begging for release, fearing death or other reprisals. Then in another instant, it stopped being an endless pit, but the eyes of his brother, who seemed to have a great deal of compassion, which he had though was a weakness, but now started to think other wise, and then another instant later, he was on the ground shaking. By the time he was able to sit up, he saw the large bronze human standing before him holding the blond in his arms with the other standing next to him, all silent, all before him. He looked them all over, and though they physically looked the same, their presence was vastly different. They no longer cowered, or feared, but stood with ease, and a quite calm, that could be unnerving. "Your fate is still yours, chose wisely," the blond said, more like himself. "Sapphire…" "My name is Tom, as his given name is Chakotay. We are no longer slaves, though we still serve, it is not you that we call master. The Prophets have called and we have answered." "We are the key to the salvation of all our brothers and sisters, all those oppressed. Those who see the light will be welcomed, those who attempt to keep in the darkness will remain in it," Julian added. Then the three men moved passed him, leaving him where he sat. "Where are you going?" he shouted. "Home," two voices replied, though no one looked back. "How do you plan on getting out of here? No one on my ship will help you?" he shouted again, as he got up and tried to follow them, stumbling over the rocks, for his anger was over taking his better senses. It took him a few minutes to realize they were not heading back to his ship, but another direction. Anger and curiosity pushed him to follow as they continued to walk across the barren terrain. He tried to use his communicator, but something in the area was keeping it from working, but he was too determined to find out what was going on to turn back to where his guards were, for he might lose track of the humans, that too was unacceptable. He followed them into a large cave, that he didn't even know was there, and suddenly found himself surrounded by a dozen humans with riffles pointing at him; they had led him to a rebel base. ************ "Julian!" a deep Irish brogue shouted. Julian turned his head in the direction of the voice, "Smiley?" When he felt a different pair of strong arms around him, he knew it was no other. "It's good to be home," he said, hugging the man back with great affection that a child would give his father. The in charge of the rebels looked at the young man and his smile faded, "Geesh man, what happened? Who are these two?" "First, the blond is Tom, he was born on earth, the second is Chakotay, he was born on Dorvan V, and yes he was altered, but he is no danger to us; both are a blessing that we all could use," Julian smiled easily, reaching his hand out and touching the large man's arm and the other man's back. "As for me, well, long story short, I got caught, the Intendant had her way, I'm now blind, but I'm free and ready to continue with the cause," he grinned. "Ah, Julian lad, how can you…" he couldn't ask, seeing his best pilot blind, as well as a friend hurt was just another blow to the soul. "Hey, there's more than one way to fight oppression," Tom replied, seeing the depression in the strange man's eyes. "I'm sorry;" Julian turned half way toward his new founded loves, "Tom, Chakotay, this is Smiley O'Brien, in charge of our little band of rebels." "Pleasure," replied Tom who held his hand out to shake the other human's hand, being it was `their' custom…a human custom. Smiley shook Tom's hand easily then looked at the formidable warrior and slowly reached out his hand, and amazingly found the grip firm but gentle. "Pleasure," he nodded. "Do you think we could get settled?" Julian asked, "We are a bit tired." "Yes, of course. I'll have…" "No, that's okay, we'll manage," Julian grinned. "What will you do with Rom?" Smiley looked at the blond, "Rom…the Ferengi…that's…Rom?" "What of it?" Rom snapped, struggling against his bonds. Smiley smirked, "Well, I think I can come up with a few ideas," his dark grin spreading across his face. "You aren't going to hurt him, are you?" Tom inquired. "Nah, just get some long overdue funding out of him," Smiley replied. "But we can discuss this later. Come on, let's get you settled," and led them farther into the caverns, the Rebels latest home. ***** The tension and depression among the huddled humans was heavy, as the three men sat quietly on the floor of the lower chamber, where those to young or too old or hurt were kept. Unlike the Alliance, life was valued, and no one was turned away, even if it would be more practical. Though Smiley didn't send them here, this is where the three came to hold up. They knew they were being watched by the other suspicious Rebels, as they sat in the center, and relaxed. Even Smiley was nerved by the fact that Julian Bashir, the normal arrogant upstart was calm, even seeming happy, though he was totally blind. He couldn't understand the change, and was chalking it up to the head injury. The hours passed and soon the three men were forgotten as they had their hands full, having to overpower the Ferengi's guard and confiscate the shuttle. Then there was the arguing that arose over what they were going to do next, and things were going no where fast. In seconds, the heated discussion was about to break out into a fight when a voice broke the silence, one unfamiliar and in song and everything stopped. A single thread in a tapestry Though its color brightly shine Can never see its purpose In the pattern of the grand design And the stone that sits on the very top Of the mountain's mighty face Does it think it's more important Then the stones that form the base Smiley let go of the person he was about to hit and moved along with others to the source of the singing, and found he was looking down to the lower cavern and it was Julian singing. Some of the older people had fashioned some items and were using it to make sound…music, which he sung too. The children danced in large circles, slow and fast, changing on the beat and a smile truly crossed his face, one long over due. So how can you see what your life is worth Or where your value lies? You can never see through the eyes of man You must look at your life Look at your life through heaven's eyes. Lai-la-lai, Lai- la-lai, Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai Lai- la-lai, Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai It was strange seeing the once arrogant young man singing a song, much less one of such life, and when he stood up, and moved among the children as if he could see, whirling around the circle, smiling from ear to ear…glowing it became clear that this was not the same man. Smiley watched as life poured out of the golden young man into those around him, and it spread faster than air through out the cavern. From the corner of his eyes, Smiley saw the other two men, were the ones making the makeshift instruments, handing them out to the children and the others. A lake of gold in the desert sand Is less than a cool fresh spring And to one lost sheep, a shepherd boy Is greater than the richest king If a man loses everything he owns Has he truly lost his worth? Or is it the beginning Or a new brighter birth? So how do you measure the worth of a man In wealth or streanght or size? In how much he gained or how much he gave? The answer will come The answer will come to him who tries To look at his life through heaven's eyes And that's why we share all we have with you Though there's little to be found When all you`ve got is nothing There's lot to go around. Amazingly, the people were clapping along; humming, dancing, something Smiley had never seen his people ever do, and it warmed him to the soul. It was then that he realized that this spark of life was missing in them, thought put out by the oppression, he saw it start to burn brightly in everyone one around him, and along with it hope… real hope. No life can escape being blown about by the winds of change and that chance And though you never all the step You must learn to join the dance You must lean to join the dance Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai Lai-la-lai, Lai-la- lai, Lai-la-lai Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai, Lai-la-lai So how do you judge what a man is worth By what he builds or what he buys? You can never see with your eyes on earth Look through heaven's eyes Look at your life Look at our life Look at your life through heaven's eyes! Everyone clapped in joy and shouted in glee when the song ended, and Julian made his way safely back to Tom and Chakotay. All three shared a loving smile, but in all things there is always one that wants to work against the magic of the moment. "You sound like priest," one of the older, thus more bitter, human males spat. "You sound like someone in a lot of pain," Tom replied lightly. "Don't pretend to think you understand me, just because were the same race," he replied coolly, his bitterness overtaking him. He moved from the shadows, his short white hair, and wrinkled face showed him to be much older than he was, and he stormed in front of the two new comers and Bashir. "This is a war!" "Yes, the battle to keep our humanity intact," Julian retorted easily with an understanding calming smile. "Look you little bastard," the man shouted and started to grab for Julian, but found himself in the clutches of the large bronze human, and when their eyes locked, the man began to tremble, and then he broke down into tears and sobbed. He was lowered to the ground, and all three laid a comforting hand on his shoulders, as a few of the other older men and woman did. It was the first unselfish act of kindness that many witnessed in a long time, and it didn't go unnoticed by anyone. "We are capable, but we have paralyzed ourselves with our hate, and until we can lift the darkness from our own eyes and find our own voice, we will forever be the slaves, instead of the Prophets children, who should care for this universe, not suffer in it anymore than anyone else should. The first step is faith…in our future and that the Prophets will deliver what they promised, freedom to all our brothers and sisters, found in all the oppressed races in the galaxy" "Julian, have you turned into Vedek?" Smiley shouted down, a half smile on his face, hearing the priestly words from his young friend. Julian laughed, "I only speak what I see as the truth." "It is time to start uniting our people," Tom said seriously. "We have all we need to win our freedom, but we must start to take the steps toward that freedom, in the light of day, not in the shadows of oppression. We are free beings, and must live and die that way, for only that way will we ever truly be free." The group applauded their approval of Tom's words. "And how do you suggest we do that?" Smiley asked, his annoyance clear in his voice, for he had been trying to do that for over a year now. Chakotay stood up and easily moved up the stone ramp and stood before the in charge, and pointed to him, then to the three, Tom, Julian and himself. Then closed his eyes and rested his hand on over his heart, then over O'Brien's. "You want us to follow you? With…faith?" The dark warrior nodded yes, and then smiled as he gestured toward all the people looking at them with the glow of true hope in their eyes. Then he looked back at O'Brien. Smiley was still looking at the glowing eyes and felt the spark of life was still there, no longer smothered like it had been moments ago. //perhaps their right,// he thought. "Well, it couldn't hurt," he said, and cheers, claps, and other sounds of approval filled the cave. He knew from that moment he agreed that nothing was ever going to be the same again, and a tiny part of him couldn't wait for the change. ************* This was the first time all three were alone, really alone, with no concern of someone barging in on them. The three men laid on the large bed, holding each other, still dressed, and appeared to be in deep thought, though they were in silent conversation. //I don't know both of you, but I feel…connected and safe with you two, and I don't want it to end, // Tom thought as he snuggle down into Chakotay's strong embrace, having grown very use to it very quickly. //I know what you mean,// Julia replied, as he too snuggled deep into Chakotay's embrace. //this is all so strange, yet I don't feel afraid or concerned, for I know we're doing the right thing.// //That's because we are,// Chakotay added, as he placed a soft kiss on top of Julian's hair. He smiled again seeing the light blush. //Have you never been loved before?// Tom inquired. Julian blushed deeper, //I've had sex, with some women, a few I even consented too, but…no men; though that could have changed had I not escaped when I did. You?// Julian then felt uneasy for such a foolish question. Tom only laughed, //If I have learned anything as in my last occupation is that love and sex are not the same. I was blessed with a love, though only a short time, for she was taken away,// his thoughts turned sad, as the memory filled him. The briefest moment flowed between them all, and then passed as Chakotay placed a tender kiss on top of his head. Tom smiled a deep loving smile, //thank you.// //I have never been with anyone.// Tom and Julian looked astonished at the large gorgeous man that held them both so tightly in his arms. //Never?// Chakotay shook his head no, //I was a very scrawny kid growing up, and I was taken by the scientist when I was fifteen; by the time I was…appealing, I was considered too dangerous to play with. Plus, by then I though I was dead inside, for I never felt what I feel now for anyone…when I laid eyes on you, my beautiful angel, I felt my heart sing for the first time,// he thought as he caressed Tom's faced. Then he turned to Julian and caressed his face, //I felt my soul soar when I saw my jewel of the night, and I knew I was blessed when I held you both in my arms. I swore then that I would love and protect you both with my life, and I will.// Both young men were moved to tears by the deeply sincere declaration of love by the older man, and they moved as one to embrace him tightly. //I didn't want to leave your arms either,//thought Tom as he laid a soft kiss on Chakotay's lips, then laid his head on the strong smooth chest. //I have not seen either of you as others may, but what I do see is truly beautiful, and I feel the same, that I don't want to be without you, and find the strongest blessing is the inner knowledge that we will always be together, even if we are not physically together.// Tom sat up and looked at Julian with concern, //why did you say that?// A wave of sorrow flowed from Chakotay, //because our time in one another's arms is short at the moment, but he is right, we will never be truly parted.// //I'm sorry, Tom, I just know that I am bound to the DarManasha mines. Why, I don't know, I just know that's where I'm going.// //As I am to return to my home, Dorvan V and gather my people.// Tom laid back down, a tiny pout on his face, //As I am to stay here and help this tiny band remain strong and in one place till you both return. Plus I may even help Rom see the error of his way and gain his help?// there was silence for a moment, //how do we know to do this?// //We know the same way we knew one another, as we knew where to go to open the first gate to the temple to the Prophets, we just do,// Chakotay thought lovingly. The energy in his thoughts changed, //if this is our first and last time alone with one another for a while, can we make it special?// Tom giggled, and Julian blushed. //I think that can be arranged, big man,// Tom teased. The little light that was in the room was extinguished as the three men explored their new connection and depth of emotion shared between each other to new heights and intimacy, strengthening their bond even further. None of the three were aware that the energy of their love making was rippling through the area, and though most didn't understand where the feelings originated, they too felt loved, and a small portion of their torn and battered souls found a little more healing that night. ************** In a large lavished meeting room, several dozen Bajorans, Klingons, and Cardassians gathered, all furious and shouting accusations at one another. "You were in charge of the DarManasha mines!" the older Bajoran male shouted at a older Cardassian. "You let a group of pa-tak humans overtake the facility! What kind of weak slug dun did you have working there?" An older Klingon shouted. "Now wait one damn minute! How were we to know that when we went to hang the blind human that all the humans would rise up together? They never would have done such a thing before. They didn't even care if they got shot themselves, so long as nothing happened to the blind one…their singing savior, Julian someone called him," TerKet, head of Cardassia snapped back. "Besides, we were out numbered, what was your excuse for losing the Dorvan V facility?" he accused back to G'ATann, head of the Klingon council. "Those things were made to be warriors, and the fact that they overcame their programming only means there was a flaw in it," G'ATann retorted looking at Wynn, Barrak. "The programming was not flawed, you were not able to control them, and you must have inferred with their training," Wynn growled. "We had everything under control that is, till that reject Chief…Chakotay, as one referred to him. Even if he couldn't say a word, some how his presence affected the others, and they revolted and after trashing the facility and all its records, leaving us back at square one, they up and left, who knows where," G'ATann grumbled. "Some one must have an idea who these humans are and what the hell is going on," Wynn growled again as he took a sip of water to ease his throat. "I can give you a bit of insight," a female Bajoran purred as she sashayed into the room, holding a data rod in her hand. "Ah, Intendant," Wynn smiled with delight and some lust as he stood to greet her. "Regent," he purred again as she kissed his cheek suggestively, then leered at the other two men in the room before taking a seat. Julian Bashir, former slave…run away, recaptured, blinded in an accident, and sold to Rom, the Ferengi. Sapphire, birth name Tom, pleasure boy from earth, paralyzed in a bit of rough sex, sold to Rom, the Ferengi. Chief, birth name Chakotay, his accident was…no accident. He was muted as a teen, seemed he had a big mouth, and then altered in the Dorvan V program. But he couldn't be forced to kill, so he was tossed into the games, where he made the facility profit; that is till he found out one of his opponents died at the hands of his owner for losing the fight, and then he refused to fight. Suddenly he starts to fight again, after being sold to…" she laughed, "Rom, the Ferengi, who along with his fortune as disappeared. He was last seen heading toward Trieste." "Why would he be heading to that waste land?" TerKet inquired. Kira shifted in her seat, bringing her legs across the arms of the chair, "I wouldn't know, but, we can go take a look. There was another tidbit you might find interesting," she purred, giving a `come get me' look to the Regent. "And what is that?" Wynn inquired, his eyes answering the siren's call. "Oh, just that Rom had suddenly come into possession of these," he said as she pulled some papers from her cleavage. She tossed them down on the table. "Seems he was seeking out the Key Stone, and according to the fool, who gave me these, said he found it, and the Triad." Though Kira remained relaxed the rest of the room grew seriously tense. "He has the Triad?" Wynn asked in a hushed voice, a tinge of fear in it. "That's not possible! If he had this…this Triad, I'm sure he would have made it know to us by now," TerKet replied, though he too looked a bit uneasy. "Besides, the Triad is just a fable made up by the humans…" "Oh, no, gentlemen, it's no tale," she purred as she sat up, dark seriousness in her eyes. "The little fool spilled his guts, before spilling them latterly. Seems Rom did find the Key Stone, and it led him to the first piece…the blond paralyzed human. The second was the mute mutant, the third," by now she was fuming, "was the blind human. The same blind human that was the cause of your riot and uprising at the mines a week ago, TerKet. Exactly what powers this Triad has, they are still just humans! And as such, need to be put down once and for all!" "Agreed," the three heads of the Alliance replied as one. "Now we know who they are, I want them dead," Regent Wynn ordered. "If they can incite this kind of reaction in only a short time, imagine what may occur if given time. Spare no expense or man power; I want them dead by the end of the week!" ***** Smiley sat in a tiny room set off to the side of the cavern's the were now overflowing with people, able and willing to fight; and thanks to Rom's sudden conversion after Tom spoke with him, they had the funding to purchase ships and weapons. "Are you sure this is going to work?" he asked the blond who sat in a wheel chair made for him by some of the people in the lower chamber, where they were once thought of as useless…to the war effort, but know knew better. "Yes. They will find this place soon enough, and if we take the station, we can move it to a new location that we can fortify. Plus, with a base in space and on ground, we will have a place to dig in, though we are no match for a head on assault by the Alliance. I don't condone violence, but I understand the need to fight for survival, and this will give us the edge we need till we can grow strong enough to expand." Smiley laughed as if the thought was wonderful as well as ridiculous, "and where would we go?" "Why back to Earth of course," Tom said easily, "for it is our home, though were ever we place our heart and soul will be our home too, we must set all the places of our birth free, and remember where we came from and why we fell in the first place so it doesn't happen again." Smiley considered the young blond man's words. "It would be nice," then he looked out toward the large crowd of people, human, Vulcan, Romulan, and other races that the Alliance had oppressed. "It would be nice, but I don't see how taking a station and moving it in orbit around here is going to help things, but…so far you three have the inside track, so…I'm with you." "You lack faith, Smiley," Julian said teasingly as he walked in, his right hand out just slightly, tracing the rocks as he walked with no help. He moved to the older man's side and hugged him, and oddly enough Smiley hugged him back, their friendship stronger than ever. "There is a reason for all things, good and bad; we just can not always see our part in the grand design of things." Tom smiled warmly, "You sound like Chakotay." This made Julian glow, "Thank you. Speaking of which…we need to talk," he said a hint of seriousness in his voice. "If you would excuse us please," Tom said softly to O'Brien, as Julian picked him up, and moved easily, as if with Tom in his arms he was freer to move. No one knew of their bond, thought they were suspicious of it, since they always seemed to know what the other was thinking, and it was true, Tom was Julian's eyes as they moved. Soon Tom and Julian joined Chakotay in their room; all three hugged and shared a short loving kiss. Then Julian placed Tom down on the bed and sat next to him as Chakotay joined them. //We are near the end of the second step,// Chakotay thought as he pulled the two younger men to him tightly, lovingly. The thought brought a mixture of emotions to everyone's face. //The beginning was the gathering of the Triad,// Tom said simply enough. //The second was the rising of the Triad,// Julian followed. //The third will be the…fall.// Chakotay finished. All three gave a heavy sigh. //Seems good things don't always last,// Tom joked, though there was little laughter in his eyes. //Do not fear my Angle, we will always be together,//Chakotay thought with much love. // Yes, we will always be together, whether in this world or the next,// Julian added with conviction and love as he held his loves to him. //So…what do we do?// Tom inquired with sadness but acceptance. //What we always do; what we must when the time comes. Till then, we love, we share our lives with those around us, and we lead by example, and let the will of the Prophets be done,// Chakotay replied. // It will be soon, won't it?// Tom asked. //Yes, the taking of Terok Nor will signal the beginning of the end. But it will not be the end for our people, no…it will be their beginning,// Chakotay replied. //I gave Smiley the plans for taking the station just like you asked, Julian,// Tom thought, as he took his other love's hand into his. //It makes sense, that I was the beginning, you the middle, and Chakotay the end, even if we were not found in that order.// //Our Chakotay is our streanght,// Julian sighed as he hugged the big man, giving him a loving kiss. //I love you both very much, and though I know you know this, I wanted to say it…share it. I share your sadness Tom, that something this wonderful has to end, but we are not doing this for us, but for them, and with all things there is a price, one that in our hearts we agreed to.// //I know and I will do what I must. I…// //Shhh, Angle. We know…we know,// Chakotay soothed as he pulled both Tom and Julian to him some more and started to love them both with all his heart and soul as if it would be for the last time. Tomorrow they would aid in the taking of Terok Nor, and it would be the beginning of the end…for the Triad, which will be the beginning for their people. ***************** The next day all went as planned in the overthrow of the station, and soon the Rebels had the station moving out of it's orbit to take its place as their guardian over their land base, which was renamed Heaven's gate, since the three men that professed their faith in the Prophets said it was the stepping stone to the Celestial temple. Everyone celebrated with great joy that no one took notice right away that they were missing three, not till word spread like wild fire that the three `saviors' as they were dubbed by some, had been captured by the Intendant, and that she planned on executing them on a live broadcast in three days, unless the human rebels gave themselves up. What ever power these three men held, they owned the hearts and soul of all they met, for an out cry of rage sounded from everyone at the news. Some wanted to attack and rescue them, others were willing to surrender, but it was Smiley's logic that finally prevailed; the Intendant was going to kill the three men no matter what they did, and a rescue was unlikely but he was willing to try. That night after long hours of planning he stumbled back to his bed and fell on his bunk, and cursed at how hard his pillow was. He reached under it and found a padd addressed to him. It was from Julian. "Seems that I learned fast…no? Chakotay is writing this for me, but I needed to let you know, that we all know our fate, so all I can ask is let it be. Do not, repeat do not try to rescues us…people will die for nothing. Our fate was decided long before we were born in this matter. Do not fret or fear for us. We will be together no matter what world we are in. I ask that you stall any rescue if you can, to save lives, but I know you will follow your heart no matter what I say. I hope I didn't disappoint you, Smiley. You were the first one to believe in me, and for that I will always love you like the father I never had. Know, that what happens next happens for a reason, and if you look real hard you see that reason soon enough. I'll be watching over you, be safe, and lead well, my friend, and never let them forget so past mistakes will not be repeated." Miles "Smiley" O'Brien cried for the first time in years as he looked at the last bit where a name was scribbled, barely readable, but he knew it was Julian's name. //Son-of-bitch finally learned to write his name,// he mused, as he led his heart ache for what he knew would be a great loss. Then he noticed an attachment, and when he opened it, found it to be an outline, a plan for the Rebels up rise in stages over the next five years… "Use wisely," the last bit said, and there was nothing more, and O'Brien allowed himself to grieve the blessings lost, though never to be forgotten. ********** The day of the execution arrived, and every rescue attempt failed, as if barred by fate, for one thing after another seemed to go wrong, keeping the rebels from their goal. The broadcast was on every carrier signal possible, and the Alliance was making a huge fuss over the presentation of putting down the human trouble makers that were responsible for the human's current state of misery. That if they left well enough alone they could live happy comfortable lives…as slaves. The three men were placed in three joining circles, Tom tied in a chair, while Julian was tied to a wooden post, and Chakotay chained to another, though neither of them protested their bonds, and were calm, though it was clear that all three had been beaten badly. Intendant Kira's voice rang out over the masses at how foolish the humans were to give their loyalty to three rejects, a blind man, a paraplegic, and a dumb muted beast. She continued to play up the three men's flaws, till another voice rang out over top of hers. "Let our people go!" Everyone murmured and looked around to see who had spoken, when the voice rang out again. "Let our people go!" Another murmur filled the area, this time out of shock, for the one who spoke was no other than the one called Chakotay, the one said to have no voice. Kira gave a nervous laugh, "So the dumb beast could talk all alone, who knew," she teased, seeing things getting a bit strange. "Our people are stronger than you give them credit for, and they will rise up and take back with is rightfully theirs…their freedom." Chakotay shouted. Then the crowd buzzed again, as they saw the blond, shift his bonds, since he didn't really have any, he couldn't walk…but yet at this moment he rose from his chair and stood tall. "They are standing against you as I do, and though I may fall, they will not," he stated in defiance, and moved and undid Julian's bonds. Julian stepped forward and rubbed his eyes, then looked around and smiled, as he took in the sight of Tom and Chakotay for the first time. The guards were ready to move in but held back, for they were told not too by the Intendant, as Tom and Julian moved to free Chakotay. "There not going anywhere!" Though she too was stunned at the sudden change in the three men, but was not ready to cave into the revelation. Julian turned to face the Intendant, "Our people see the truth, and have found their voice, and are now able to stand against you. No matter what you do to us this day, you have already lost. Our people `will' be free." Then three voices rang out in song, a song of freedom as the three men held each other and stood tall a waiting their fate. Anger from being humiliated for the last time boiled in her veins, "Kill them!" she shouted at the top of her lungs. And she stood laughing as she watched the blood of the three men that dared to defy her and the Alliance coat the floor, brining an end to them once and for all…so she thought. ********* An old white haired man sat on a large wooden porch, rocking in his hand carved chair, staring up at the three moons in the night sky. A light in the drive way from the hover car grabbed his attention, then watched at the car settled down and three little boys jumped out at full run. "Grandpa!" The old man stopped rocking and embraced the three boys with all his heart, and looked up to see their mother and father unpacking the car. "How was your trip from Earth?" "Great!" The eldest boy replied and took a seat by his grandfather's feet, since the younger two got dibs on the lap. "You're going to tell us our story, Grandpa?" the younger two boys asked as one, twins, though not identical. The older man grinned lovingly. "Again? You ask me that every time you visit. Aren't you sick of hearing that tale?" "No everyone replied," including the boy's parents that came up on the porch and gave their greetings. "Very well," he said. He pointed up to the three moons, "The blessed Trinity," he said softly. Each moon named after the three martyrs that lead us to finally having the courage to fight for our freedom and our lives as they are today. "That one is yours, Chakotay, for though he was silent till the last day, he was strong and noble, and on the last day demanded our freedom; he was our voice. That one is yours Tom, for though his body was considered weak, his mind soared beyond other's limits, and on the last day stood to face his foes; he provided the plans that gave us our edge in our fight. The last one is yours Julian, for though he was blind he could see into the hearts of man and bring joy where only sorrow had once lived. He found his sight the last day and stared down his enemy; he brought our spark of life back into existence. The Alliance thought they were dousing our spirits, but they only ignited them, and we rose together and fought back. Though it was years before any of us knew peace, and eventually had our freedom and our homes back, we were victorious; thanks to their sacrifice. Thus the three moons were named after them so we would always remember them." "Did you really know them, Grandpa Smiley?" the oldest boy, Chakotay asked. The old man gave a wry smile, "Yes, I knew them as well as anyone could in the short time they were with us. It was Julian that left word to me that let me know that they for saw their own death. They wanted me to make sure that our people never forgot what brought our downfall in the first place, and to this day I have done so. When my time comes to join them in the Celestial temple, I will charge you three boys with that task…if you think you can handle it?" he asked with a light tease, but a seriousness in his eyes. The three boys looked at each other then back up at their grandfather, "We are," they replied innocently. Smiley O'Brien hugged his grandkids, and quietly blessed the three men that made it all possible once again with their sacrifice. As he sat there holding his blessings, he smiled again, for in the moon light, he though he could see a similarity between the boys and their name sakes, then shook the strange though away, and let himself be lost in the boys tales on growing up on Earth…their home.
