This is called a fore-and-aft rig, and can be rigged as a Bermuda rig with triangular sails fore and aft, or as a gaff-rig with triangular foresails and a gaff rigged mainsail. >The sloop main pursuance in the Caribbean was transport often goods, guns and slaves. >Due to it's small size, robust sail design and maneuverability, the sloop was a favorite among Caribbean Buccaneer and privateers in the 1630's to the 1730's. Most notable of these being Captain Kidd, Edward Low and Blackbeard.
