Your ticket was blank." >"Oh, you don't know what time it is?" >No, I wasn't paying much attention, so I take a quick peek at my phone. >About 10 minutes 'til my lunch break. >"I needed you here a bit earlier. A new book came in and I needed to tell you about it." >She wore a big smile, she was glowing even brighter than ever. >"That good, huh?" >"God no, it's terrible! It's probably the worst thing I've ever read! But the other girls here have been eating it up and I don't want to ruin their fun." >Ah, it's going to be one of those fun rants. >This book is going to get torn apart. >She waves down one of the other librarians. >"I'm going to take my lunch early today. If you need me, I'll be in the back." >The other librarian looks at the both of us and giggles. >"Okay~. Have fun you two." >Ms. Roberts puts her hands on her hips and gives her a stern look. >But the other woman just smiles. >"Whatever," the ceratosaurus woman sighs. >Huh, what was that about? >Be me. >Lovesick sap working as IT at Volcano High. >The smell of freshly brewed tea filled the lounge. >Earl Grey with hints of vanilla. >Ms. Roberts produces a small cake and places it on the table. >Before I even have the chance to sit down, she's already served me a slice and poured a cup. >She sat at her side waiting for me, smiling and eager to share her experience with me. >"So, how bad is it this time," I ask as I sit. >"Okay, so..." >Ms. Roberts goes on to explain the plot. >Something, something, dystopian fantasy, something, something, chosen one, something, something, wish-fulfillment. >She was animated as she raved about how it didn't adhere to its core message. >How it kept meandering around, creating a lot of unnecessary plot threads. >And it's full of spelling and grammatical errors, as if an editor never touched the manuscript. >As she spoke I couldn't help but stare at her. >I watched her eyes practically glitter as she tore into the book. >The way her lips moved as they shaped out her words. >Fuck, I really am attracted to her. >"The fact that it's so popular, or even how it got published is so baffling to me that..." she rubs her temples. "I can't even begin to comprehend it." >"Well, people like what they like," I say, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible. "There's no accounting for taste." >"I suppose you're right," she says with a tired sigh. "It just frustrates me sometimes." >We sit in silence for a few moments, just enjoying each other's company. >Then, as if on cue, we both start speaking at the same time. >"So, um..." >"Do you, um..." >We both laugh and Ms. Roberts blushes a little. >"Sorry, you go ahead," she says. >I clear my throat. >"I was just wondering if you wanted to, um, go out for dinner some time." >Shit, did I just ask her out on a date? >Ms. Roberts' eyes widen a little in surprise, but she quickly recovers. >"I'd love to," she says with a smile. >We exchange numbers and plan to meet up next week. >As I leave, I can't help but feel like I'm floating on air. >I'm going on a date with Ms. Roberts!
