Hybrid Life - Chapter 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ragged pants, heavy breathing, and the sound of heavy hoof falls on the rocky terrain was all that could be heard in the stillness of the night air. Every few moments, a startled whinny or whimper could be heard as well… but for all the noise that was being caused, none of it fell on the ears of another. A pained cry sounded out with the sound of rocks being pushed aside and a thud as something fell to the ground. Searing pain tore through a ragged, sweat-soaked body, some blood leaking out of fresh, open wounds. The silence of the night was pierced by a scream and whinny of terror and need. “IS THERE NO ONE OUT THERE!? PLEASE!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rennae bolted up in bed, the sheets falling from over her form and landing in her lap. Her heavy bosom rose and fell with each heavy breath she took. She was trembling, her eyes shooting around the room, sweat falling from her brow and stinging her eyes. As she slowly came to the realm of the living again she realized everything had been just a dream. Ears folded back she shifted from the bed, standing up and moving towards the bathroom attached to her small bedroom. As she walked her hooves clacked on the hard wood floor, soon clacking on the tiles of the bathroom as she turned on the light and turned to look in the mirror. Her mane was a mess, tussled from her night terrors and the sweat beading down her forehead. “Of course I had the dream again… why wouldn’t I?” she says to herself, her voice mixed with anger and sadness. Turning on the taps and letting the water warm a bit she just looks at herself, the ragged and exhausted mare staring back at her looking quite pathetic. “You know darlin’… you’re gonna end up dyin’ of this shit… guarantee it.” With a snort she lowers her face to the sink, bringing up the water in her cupped hands to splash over her face and muzzle. After a few more splashes she looks back up into the mirror, sighing as she turns the water off. The sudden sound of her alarm going off caused Rennae to jump up and whinny in a startled panic, running over to the alarm and pounding it off with the special button she had made specifically to avoid fumbling to find the switch to turn it off. With a bit of a dramatic sigh she trudged over to her dresser, opening it up and fetching her outfit for the day. She grabbed a simple set of white cotton bra and bikini panties, pulling the panties up her strong legs before slipping the bra on, grunting as she struggled a bit to contain her rather large bust. As she looked over herself in the mirror she couldn’t help but sigh. It’s not that she was an overweight mare by any means. It’s just that she had a bit of curve and some flab. She had been trying to work it off, but everything she tried just seemed to fail. She ran her hands up over her hips, tracing her fingers over her belly with a snort before moving to her large breasts, now hugged tightly by her bra. Many a male was drawn to her simply because of her breasts, and many times it was more an annoyance than anything. But having a 36DD rack tends to draw the unwanted. Rennae’s main problem though is the fact she is a hybrid, and she figured that might be one of the reasons that she was still single. Her body structure was all mare, however her colouration was that of a fox. Brown socks on her legs and arms, with white moving along her chest and groin, up under her muzzle. Her ears were also that same colour brown. However, instead of a mare’s tail, she had that of a fox with a white tip on the end. To add to her half-fox nature, she had cheek tufts on the side of her face and a bit more slender of a muzzle than a normal mare, but certainly larger than a fox. Her hands ran up to her mane, running her fingers through the golden strands to smooth it out a bit before picking up a brush and grooming it out. One feature though that many males were drawn to were her deep, ocean-blue eyes. One could lose themselves for hours just staring in them and holding idle conversation. There were a few features though that tended to scare away most males. The fact that she stood 6 foot 5 inches meant she stood quite a bit taller than most males she came across. The other part of her that was usually the final straw if they didn’t mind her height was the rather large endowment she had. The bulge it caused, if not properly hidden, was enough to frighten most males away. Normally when she had to go out in public or to work, she was able to hide it well enough due to the clothing she could wear. Being able to wear longer skirts allowed her the ability to for the most part function easily as a female. It was those private moments however, either at a club or out on a date, that things would inevitably go wrong. With a whinnying snort and a stomp of her hoof she turned away from her reflection, grabbing up her work skirt and pulling it up her legs and over her broad hips. Snapping the skirt in place, she grabbed her work shirt, slid it over her head and pulled it down into place, affixing her name badge before trotting out the door to work. Today was going to be another long day, and she couldn’t wait for it to be over. However, nothing could have really prepared her for the way her day, and possibly her life, was about to drastically change. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Rennae, I need you to stay later this evening. We just got that new shipment of computers in and need them set up for tomorrow morning. We have a class coming in and need those computers for it.” “But sir I have an appointment I need to attend tonight. I can’t just miss that. It takes months to set these things up!” “And just who am I supposed to get to set these things up? Rennae I need you to do this please. I’ll give you the day off tomorrow with pay. I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important to have these machines up and running.” If looks could kill, Rennae was sure her boss would be lying in a pile of unrecognizable goo. The short fat badger had a way to get under her pelt, even if he did his best to be kind. At this moment in time, she wasn’t sure if there could be anything worse that could happen. But of course, when one thinks that question, or speaks it, the universe tends to provide an answer. “Also, I need you to make sure the projector is all set up and ready as well as set up all the stations with the booklets here and...” “Wait… wait… the projector. You mean that piece of shit that is currently sitting in a box with about fifty million other boxes on top of it because we never use the shitty thing… that we don’t even know still works… WHY?!” At this point the old badger was starting to lose his patience, his voice a bit more menacing but still having a tender tone to it, “Rennae, it’s the only one we have, and we need those slides for the lessons tomorrow. So please, I need that set up as well.” “Fine, Christ. Why don’t I just live here?! I seem to be here my whole life anyways!” She didn’t leave the badger time to respond, heading out of the room to bring in the shipment of computers to the meeting room. “That fat old bastard… why doesn’t he just put a ball and chain on my leg and force me to work the rest of my life in this shit hole?” As she arrived in the meeting room she noticed the pallet full of about fifteen computers sitting there, the room empty with not even a table set up. It was only a couple of hours till she was scheduled to be done with her shift and head home, four hours until her so called appointment. A sigh escaped her muzzle as her anger subsided, replaced with defeat and sadness. She hadn’t had an evening to herself in months… the company struggling with keeping employees and desperately needing more. She hoped and prayed tomorrow would be successful and they would find some help so she wouldn’t have to constantly devote her life to this shitty job. A couple of hours passed and it was time to close up for the day. She could hear the footsteps of her boss coming to check up on her progress and she tried to calm herself. “Rennae? Again I’m sorry I have to ask you to do this. I’ve left you fifty dollars at the front desk if you want to order yourself some food while you work. Keep whatever you don’t use for yourself. And again, please stay home tomorrow and take the day off. I’ll be sure to pay you for it.” The badger gave her a sincere smile, regretting that he had to do this to his hardest working employee. Rennae could hear her mind spinning with so many names she wanted to call him, the anger she felt on the tip of her tongue. But she saw his sincerity and she knew just how hard it was for him as well. Work had been tough over the past few months. Employees quitting, some being so useless they hindered work instead of helped. She bit her tongue before responding, her voice soft but still had a bit of edge to it, “Mr. Renfrow I really hope you’ve brought in those who will be good to help… I’m really tired of living my life here. I spend more time here than at my own home. But thank you for the food money… and I do appreciate the day off tomorrow… See you on Monday.” She somehow managed a small smile to him before turning around and continuing setting up only the second computer. The two hours took far too long setting up the tables and power properly to set up all the computers, not only that but one of the table legs broke and she had to fix it. The old badger was about to say something more, but he knew she was right. He did ask so much of her and was indeed his best employee. He knew things were going on with the poor hybrid, but it wasn’t his place to ask her about it. She was his employee and the opposite gender as well. He wouldn’t put himself or her in a situation that could cost them both their jobs and legal problems. He quietly headed down the hall and opened the main door, closing it behind himself and locking it. As she heard the door close and lock she looked at all the computers she still had to finish setting up. She still hadn’t even gotten to the projector yet and she knew deep down in her gut that it probably wasn’t going to work right away. With a curse to herself she got back to work, looking to the clock and knowing she was going to be here well into the evening. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The loud banging on the door at just after seven made the mare-vixen hybrid jump out of her pelt almost. She had been so focused on setting up the last computer she had forgotten she had ordered food. Trotting down the hall to the front door she looked out to see the pizza guy looking into the dark front of the building, the look on his face one of confusion that he was at the wrong address. As she ran to the door though he put on a fake smile, greeting her as she unlocked and opened the door, “Chipoli’s Pizza ma’am, here in under 30 so it’s nice and fresh.” Rennae pulled out the cash she had put into her shirt pocket, handing him a twenty for the pizza, “Keep the change for yourself.” She smiled and reached out to take the pizza, looking up to notice the look on the delivery drivers face. The wolf had that look about him that many males had when first getting a look at her. She watched as his tongue made no attempt at hiding as he licked his lips. “Here you go beautiful. So… what’s a beautiful thing like you being stuck at a place like this? You should be out at a club with me.” Rennae cringed, rolling her eyes at his words. She grabbed at the pizza box, moving inside a bit before commenting back, “I have a successful well-paying job, and far more success than you could hope for with your pathetic job and tact. Go back to your deliveries little wolf before I have you fired from the only job you could hope for.” A slam of the door was all the wolf got after that, the lock clicking into place and the backside of the mare walking away. “Fucking bitch,” he grumbled, heading back to his car to drive off and move along for his last couple of deliveries. “It never fails. Never… fucking… FAILS!” Rennae snorted and threw one of the screw drivers she had in her pockets at the far wall of the meeting room. Impressively it sunk into the wall a bit, sticking out like an arrow from a bow might do. Placing the pizza on the far table she moved back to the last station she had to set up, grumbling as she set to completing that task. “He would have run off anyways if I would have even given him a chance,” she shook her head, affixing a couple of more cables to the computer before she was finished. As she finished she moved to the pizza, opening the box and taking a slice. A thought came to her as she was about to take a bite, making her groan, “Please, whatever deity is out there… please let the projector work tonight so I can just GO HOME!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was one in the morning by the time a tired, disheveled-looking mare emerged through the front door of the darkened building. Rennae turned to lock the doors to the building before trudging down the walkway to the parking lot and her car. She was so tired and out of it that she didn’t even notice the tall shadow moving up behind her. As she reached her car door she dug out her keys from her purse, unlocking the car door and pulling it open to get in. Just as she was about to get in she noticed the shadow and a cool presence near her. Her head moved around to look behind her, but there was nothing. She looked around the parking lot, the lights displaying no one around, no other vehicles beside herself. Shivering a bit she moved and got into her car, locking her door quickly as she started the vehicle. Either she was starting to hallucinate with being so tired, or there was something not right. As much as her senses told her something was wrong, the drive home was uneventful. There were no cars following her, no shadows creeping up on her again. As she reached her apartment she parked her car and shut it off, just sitting there in the drivers’ seat looking around outside for anything or anyone. There was nothing though, just her alone. She unlocked and got out of her vehicle, quickly closing the door and trotting into her building. Once she was inside she relaxed a bit, climbing up the stairwell to the fifth floor where her apartment was. Finally she got herself into the apartment, door closed and locked, and the feeling of worry left her instantly. She was home. With that she dropped everything: her purse on the floor, stripped out of her clothes while walking to the bedroom, before finally flopping naked into bed. She was exhausted and didn’t care about anything. Tomorrow she would have to herself, but right now she just wanted to sleep. In her tired stupor, Rennae failed to notice a small envelope fall free of her purse, landing on the couch with her name facing upwards. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well that is all for the first chapter. I hope you enjoyed. Any thoughts or ideas/concerns, please leave me a reply. I'd love feedback.
