Part 3: The Aquarium The hallway had a single solid arch of reinforced glass that was multiple Pillows tall and wide, and several times as long as that. All around the two daters, shapes darted, glided, and writhed. They looked up as a giant horned eel imparted new hues on them with its shadow. According to one of the many signs that dotted the hallway, the periodic high-pitched moans on their left were coming from a small shrimplike critter called a banemthopy. They stood in topless silent wonder among many curious children and adults who all seemed to have some different source of excitement to point out to each other. On this day, both ladies were Fishgazer. Neither had a lot of their own undersea facts that they were aching to share. And they didn't take a tour because they preferred to set their own pace. And being in a closely-packed crowd would probably complicate things. But Pillow did have a few notes – though she knew that Stargazer didn't need to eat the kind of things that most of the people here would consider food, she pointed out a few things. “This species of centilobster is surprisingly tasty. The only issue is, you need a big appetite or some friends to help you eat it! Reheating it is tricky.” “Most people would say the Grimgill is too bony, but I say they need stronger teeth and jaws!” This one was accompanied by a big toothy grin. Stargazer slowly made a wide grin of her own, with giant zipperlike teeth. The asymmetric bangs that dominated the right side of Pillow's face flopped as she nodded her head vigorously. Thanks to very effective filtration systems, Pillow was allowed to pet the isopods and such despite all of her fur. Stargazer spent more time making use of the petting zone than she did. At the gift shop, they each got a very stretchy t-shirt with the logo of the aquarium and an undersea design on the front, and text saying “It's Fish Time!” on the back. After all that, both had worked up a small appetite, so they went to a malt shop for a snack, holding hands. But along the way... Stargazer squeezed Pillow's hand tightly. “Yes, I noticed them too,” said the fox. “but we won't have to worry about it. Just keep holding on, and keep walking.” The two of them became as ghosts, invisible and intangible, but to anyone looking, nothing appeared to change. As they proceeded down the straightway, they passed a dim, foreboding alley, and this is where they diverged. Their doubles entered the alley, and not long afterward, two men followed, one a gar anthro, and the other a cheetahman, both with cruel mischief baked into their sneers, and traces of blood baked into their jackets. They saw the doubles turn a corner into a dead end, and followed, where they were eaten by a cat. A certain noodle kept poking her fingers through people as they passed. “Haven't seen them for a while now, and we've made a few turns. Hmh!” Pillow nodded. “And now, we're about to be physical again,” she warned. She covered up this end of the illusion by making it look like they warped in together. Stargazer tried to catch some of the illusory sparkles as they faded. Pillow obliged her by turning the one between the alien's hands into a very small, real gemstone. It slowly went toward the hoop. Pillow shrugged. “Keep it?” It vanished. At the malt shop, seated at a red leather booth that vaguely matched Stargazer's torso, Pillow ordered a mana-infused strawberry milkshake... with TWO straws! They stared into each other's eyes and made silly faces in between shared sips, until most of the drink was gone. When it was time to go, they shared a kiss on the lips, this time with tongue. But not a long kiss. “Heheh. Our boobs are also kissing.” Stargazer rolled her eye and smushed her chest up harder against the larger woman's. That got another laugh. “Yeah, I'm excited for next time~”
