In the lamplight's glow, as the city slept,
Out from the safe old shelter, into the streets
I strode, with silent footfalls searching,
My needs simple, my hunger deep.

You crossed my path, flitting,
Floating over macadam,
Flowing over a wall
But for one moment, you paused.

And in your eyes I saw it,
That same hunger, deep and wild,
And I knew, ere you slipped into the shadows
That we were too alike.

We twilight hunters two, each seeking,
in the gray pre-dawn our quarry
Did but for one passing moment
Smile upon our kin!
