Chapter Two “Indie! Indie come back here!” Nala called to her sister. Indigo was running way ahead of Nala, and looked behind her. Nala was now a teen, and she didn't really hang around with Indigo too much. But Sarafina would get them to play together now and then, just so they could strengthen their bond. “But I don't want to be late, Nala! Nuka, Samaki and Uhuru are already at the waterhole!” But even though Indigo was anxious to get there, she slowed down anyways for her sister. Ziwa, Samaki and Uhuru were cubs from another pride, who had taken shelter in the PrideLands since their lands had been taken over by a stronger pride. And since Scar was barely on patrol, they were safe. The other lionesses didn't care as much either, the PrideLands were so run down anyways that it didn't matter if there were a few more lions. Nuka was the son of Zira, a lioness who was only a few seasons younger than Scar. She and a small group of lionesses from the other pride often came over to Pride Rock to hear Scar. Scar didn't mind, it just meant that he had new followers. Samaki and Uhuru were twin sisters, and Samaki was next in line to the throne, since they were the princesses. Although at the moment, they didn't really have a kingdom. Nala and Indigo finally made it to the waterhole. Nuka was sun bathing and Samaki and Uhuru were play fighting near by. Indigo happily ran up to them, and Nala had to laugh to herself, seeing her sister so giddy made her feel all warm inside. Indigo had a smile that could brighten anyone's day. And she was so kindhearted that it was hard to believe that Scar was her real father. “Hi guys!” she called out as she came near them. Samaki and Uhuru stopped to look at her, and they rolled their eyes in unison. “Well look who it is, the reject princess!” Samaki said. Nala was shocked. Even though they had only been here a few weeks, Indigo had made these cubs out to be her friends. But from the sounds of things, they were more like bullies. “Hey, I'm a real princess!” she said, sitting down and holding her head high. Nuka walked over then, and gave a smirk. “Really? We heard that your dad isn't even the rightful king! He just stole the throne!” Indigo furrowed her brow, which she often did whenever something was irritating her. “That's not true!” she said. “Oh yeah? Then why did he become king as soon as the other king died? Seems kinda fishy to me!” “Yeah!” the twins said together. Indigo looked down, not knowing what to say. But luckily Nala knew what to do. “Hey, you guys leave her alone!” she called out, walking over to the cubs. Nuka looked up at her and laughed. “Or what? You can't do anything. You're not even her real sister!” Nala growled, she absolutely hated it when someone said that she and Indigo weren't real sisters. “We are too! Besides, it's not blood that makes you sisters, it's who you are!” Nuka scoffed, but all at once, the three cubs looked down. Nala and Indigo looked at one another, it wasn't until they saw a shadow overhead that they turned around to see who it was. Scar was standing over them, quiet with a stern look on his face. “Hello cubs.” he said. The five cubs said hello back. Scar looked over at Indigo and gave a nod. “Come, Indigo, I want to show you something.” Indigo looked over at Nala, who just shrugged her shoulders. Whatever it was that Scar wanted, it wasn't to do with her. “Where are we going dad?” Indigo asked, following Scar beside him. He looked down and smiled. “You'll see.” he said. They made it back to Pride Rock, and he helped her climb the large rock. Finally, they made it to the top. Indigo was amazed by the sight before her. She could see all of the PrideLands form up here! Scar smiled down warmly at her. “Look Indie, everything the light touches, is our kingdom.” Indigo smiled for a moment, then she furrowed her brow, and looked up at her father, confused. “What light, dad?” she asked. Scar put his head to one side, then looked out over the horizon. Sure enough, the PrideLands looked bleak. It was grey and desolate, there hadn't been any rain for months, and the herds were sparse. Scar sighed. “Nevermind Indigo...go find your mother.” Indigo made her way down the rock, then paused, turning back to look at her father. He was still sitting, overlooking the PrideLands...except his back was hunched over, and he seemed upset, sad, almost.
