Every morning I awake  
  and I wait for your eyes to open  
So I can lick the smile on your face  
  and get the first scritches of the day.

You do your morning things  
  with I at your heels  
And all too soon you're out the door  
  as I watch from the window

The long hours creep by  
  as I keep watch for you to return  
Every car is yours  
  every person you, coming back to me.

Finally you return  
  and my joy knows no bounds  
I leap into your arms  
  as soon as the door is open

You have your evening things  
  again I am at your heels  
Waiting for my turn  
  to show you my love

And when you sit to rest  
  I am in your lap  
To listen about your day  
  and love you with all I am

Then it is time for sleep  
  I wait on your bed for you to come  
And as you pull the covers over yourself  
  I make sure there is nothing to harm you

I lay myself down next to you  
  my soul at peace with you so near  
And I slip into sleep  
  to guard you in my dreams
