Dear Darkness To the nightmare monsters Crushing the leaves Just outside of my porch light To the silent sweet creaks All up in the trees Content with their cold under the moonlight To the out-of-shape shadows That linger in waiting To the observant eyes That hold their ground, shaking Try not making such trivial fuss When I slither outside to check on my dust I've only mere minutes out here on the steps To loosen my nerves with habitual reps I'd rather not mingle with all of your spooks Nor listen for acorns to clang off tin roofs I'm here as a spy With a ponderous eye Not wanting to wait For the coming sunlight So give me two minutes To finish my time I'll gather my trinkets And go back inside ~
