Rave Reviews sat nervously in his chair. It was a simple chair, the kind you would find in some group meetings regarding addiction. The best was apparently reserved for the doctor himself. Across the table sat a soft looking recliner; it reminded him of a therapist's chair. “You alright Ravie?” Next to him Pinkie Pie sat. The pink mare had earlier been kicking her hind legs about like a bored child. Quite contrary to her earlier behavior, what had brought them here initially. Pinkie Pie had been feeling quite ill. The party planner had first come to notice while at Sugar Cube Corner. Reportedly, she had left quite a mess within a trashcan. The Cakes set her up for an appointment first thing, but he was among the first to know. His worry centered upon her. Never did he expect he would ever have a girlfriend. It felt odd to say it in public. They had been together for a while now. He remembered when he first came to Ponyville, odd, an outcast, socially withdrawn. Of course, these were all things that stemmed from his childhood, and his parents harsh methods of parenting. Then he met Pinkie Pie. Such cheeriness he had never encountered in a pony before. It was as if “sad” wasn't in her dictionary. If anything, she was the first real friend he had made in a while. Their meetings eventually turned into what could be called “dates”. Nothing overly romantic, maybe going for a walk, getting some ice cream, or going to a movie together. But, something clicked. Somewhere along the line there was a spark, and their fire for one another burned. Then it all came to a head three weeks ago. Oh Celestia that day was glorious. It was raining, no hard storm but a light shower. They cuddled together with some cocoa, a classical scenario. But then they decided to change locations. The bedroom soon held two occupants: him and her. What happened next he recalled with great detail and emotion. It was a new experience for both of them, and they loved every minute of it. With passion came a risk however. Three weeks had passed and here they were. The sickness could have been something else, but there was still the matter of her appetite. The amount Pinkie Pie ate didn't faze him as odd for he had seen her wolf down treats with ease. Why once he heard she had eaten an entire cake in one gulp (and looking rather cutely plump afterwards). Yet ketchup covered cupcakes were not an everyday entree. “Yeah Pinks,” he replied with his pet name for her, “I'm just worried about you that's all.” Pinkie Pie flashed a reassuring grin. “Oh don't be such a worry wart Ravie Wavey! I'm sure the doctor will say everything's hunky dory!” Her cheerfulness always provided the light he often needed. “Sorry for the delay.” The doctor's voice came from behind. Striding into view he seated himself. “Well Doctor is she alright?” Rave Reviews asked. Adjusting his glasses, the doctor looked grave for a moment implying the news wasn't good. But that changed as he closed his eyes and smiled. “No worries Mr. Reviews, Ms. Pie is perfectly healthy, but we've discovered the reason for her morning sickness.” Morning Sickness? That usually was associated with..... “We've run the tests and I can safely confirm,” the doctor hesitated in his speech, reconsidering what he should say for this occasion, “that you Ms. Pie have a cupcake baking in the oven.” The doctor chuckled at his own joke. Rave's eyes grew wide as realization set in. Pinkie on the other hoof hadn't connected the dots form her vacant expression. “But, I'm not making cupcakes.” Pinkie Pie said confusedly. “Let me rephrase that.” the doctor cleared his voice. “It appears you're expecting.” Rave sunk further into his seat, knowing full well that their little night had led to this. Pinkie's face no longer showed confusion but instead bewilderment. “Waitaminute! Are you saying...th-that I'm going to be a mommy?” Pinkie Pie asked, voice trembling. The doctor merely nodded. Sitting within her chair, she began to physically and audibly shake. Her face began to crack as her lips began to move. Rave felt concerned for her, not able to comprehend how she would react to the news. “YAHOOOOO!” Without warning Pinkie Pie leapt into the air, impossible by normal standards. Landing upon her hooves without so much force upon her body, the party pony began to prance around. “Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh!” She chanted in rapid succession before breaking out into a celebratory jig. Rave Reviews's eyes grew wider straining his eye sockets. Leaping from his own chair, he approached the doctor placing both hooves upon the table. “Doctor? Are you sure you don't need to run those test again?” His voice practically plead. “Mr. Reviews, our tests are one hundred percent accurate. Ms. Pie is pregnant and you're going to be a father. Congratulations!” That was all the red stallion needed to hear. “Lucky me.” He muttered. He repeated it once again as he and Pinkie Pie stepped out of the hospital. Literally hopping along, her demeanor hadn't dampened in the least. “Oh Ravie!” Pinkie grabbed Rave in a tight hug. “I'm so happy! We're going to have our own family!” “Yeah Pinks.......that's real great.” Rave spoke unenthusiastically but Pinkie failed to pick up on that. “I knew you'd be happy. You're going to be a great pony papa!” Pony papa? It didn't help his mood. “Who should I tell first?” Pinkie Pie realized she couldn't keep this news to herself. “I've got to tell the girls, Spike, the Cakes, my parents, my sisters, Gummy, Lyra and Bon Bon,” While Pinkie continued to list all she felt needed to know the news, Rave was lost in his own set of emotions. Fatherhood wasn't something he had planned, not that he planned every detail of his life, partially he was a go with the flow kind of pony, but he still held some form of schedule and plan. “Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Princess Cadance, Twilight's brother,” This new development had put a damper on his otherwise normal routine. Frankly he didn't know how to feel at this moment. In all honesty, he had imagined the family life, wife, kids, a high paying job to support them, a nice home, maybe a dog. To him this should be a dream come true. But could he really be father material? “Cranky and Matilda, Trixie, that one girl I met in Canterlot once,” Writing reviews had given him a living, though not the acclaim he desired. For once he wanted to be recognized, to stand as an equal amongst the great ones. What would his child he be if he didn't have same way to make his child proud? “My daddy writes reviews that aren't recognized by anypony!” Yeah that'll impress the kids. “the changelings, no that's not a good idea.” Pinkie Pie was clearly running out of ideas. “What the hay I'll just tell everypony in town first!” “Maybe you should just go home and rest Pinks, this has been a big day for us both.” He suggested. Pinkie considered that and decided quickly. “Okey dokie ardichoky!” Right before she left, she wrapped her hooves around him again and pecked him on the cheek. “Thanks for being there for me sweety.” Rave kissed her instinctively not even sparing hesitation. As Pinkie pranced off to know doubt plan a party about her pregnancy, Rave returned to his home, his low quality home that probably was the worst property in town. There was much to think about.
