"First light approaches." "Follow no false light." Diana stood at the base of Mount Targon. In a flash, terrible memories of slaughter, "herecy," and slander were brought back before her eyes. The flash of those memories caused her to reel in a phantom pain, the day she was marked a heretic, the day she was marked a disgrace amongst the Solari tribe, the day she'd lost many friends, and gained a new rival. The slaughter of her elders did not go unnoticed, as the paragon of the Solari, Leona, the Radiant Dawn, had indeed noticed, and to Diana's surprise, she would soon meet her off the Fields of Justice. The Lunari set off for her long trek up to the peak of the mountain, where the Solari tribe was located. Typical solar-fanatics, always seeking to be as close to what burns and blinds as possible. She scoffed at the thought of going back to the very place where she was scolded for believing in what could bring both tribes ultimate power, worshipping both the Sun and the Moon, bringing both tribes together, but all that brought apparently, was the imprisonment of one determined woman. Their mistake, ended in blood. The trek was much longer than she thought to be, so Diana would have to stop and set up camp around halfway up the mountain. She was close, she could feel it. As she set up a camp, hunting was her next priority, she went off to slaughter a few small animals, funny, how these creatures probably received more respect than she did from the Solari elders. She sighed as she began to skin each of her catches, and left the raw meat to the flame of her campfire to cook. She ate, and she rested, staring up at the now moonlit sky, which was void of any stars. Slowly but surely the Lunari warrior drifted off into the dreamworld, where she was once again haunted by nightmares of that fateful night. This time, she stood idly behind as a Solari Acolyte, which she once was demoted to after trying to convince the elders of evidence of a tribe that worshipped the moon. She stared in horror as familiar Solari warriors, no, those were friends of hers... They were massacred, each and every one of them. Once the protectors were easily dispatched, the Lunari immediately rushed to the elders, giving each a slow, painful death on the cold stone floor, leaving them to bleed out. For a few moments, the warrior stood peacefully, staring up at the moon which beamed down upon her. Then, she turned her back, pointing her Moonsilver blade at the only standing Solari Acolyte in the room. The former Diana cocked a brow as she stared, her expression changing from confusion to horror as the Lunari warrior rushed towards her, causing the young woman to flee in terror. It was not enough, the Lunari's powers granted her speed, strength, and with that, she was right behind her in a matter of seconds, despite the young woman's head start. However, a radiant beacon of hope appeared before her, literally. Leona rushed up the steps to the elder's court, shouting for the young Acolyte to flee as she made a beeline to step in front of her, taking a hit from Diana. More blood splashed onto the earth, it looked like a slaughterhouse of humans. The Solari's eyes closed as she winced in pain, her shield falling to the ground. Was this it? With a shout, troubling silence was broken and another shout immediately erupted from the Lunari warrior's mouth, and she too was ran through. The two warriors stood there, blades stuck in each other's bodies. Blood began to drip from Leona's mouth, forming a steady stream of blood from her lips. Despite the obvious pain she was in, a hearty laugh erupted from her form, forming a fist with her free hand and beating it against her chest, a universal sign of respect. And that was all. Diana gasped as she awoke from her sleep, staggering up from the ground, a pained expression on her face. That was not how that night went, she did not fight Leona that night, nor did she die on that night. She shook it off, shaking her head at her own thoughts. Another petty nightmare. She'd been through worse, she'd been through Solari torture and imprisonment, what was a little nightmare to her? Nothing. She put out the flames of her campfire and once again began her journey upwards, it was a rather uneventful journey, but she made it up to the peak before the afternoon, which was a blessing. As she walked up the stairs to the Solari courtroom, she staggered as memories rushed back to her eyes, nearly falling backwards down the stairs, catching hold of the railing next to her. Her vision turned red for a second, she thought for that split second she'd gone blind. No, it was a horrible memory, blood splashing almost everywhere in the courtroom. She'd painted it red. Diana shivered as a steady stream of tears ran down her cheeks. She'd regretted what she had done on that night, yes. "They gave me no choice..." she choked on her own words, sobbing as she spoke to herself. She walked blindly up the stairs as these horrible memories took over her vision. She gripped her blade tightly as she tripped over the last step, practically faceplanting into the courtroom. She sighed, turning over and laying on the ground until her flashbacks subsided. That night scarred her, she did not want to slaughter those she held so closely to her, those Solari guards were once her friends, now they are nothing but vengeful spirits most likely spiting her in the afterlife. As her memories seemed to stop flowing back to her, she wiped her face off and stared up at the sunlit sky. She shook her head and got up from the ground, staring at what was once a slaughterhouse. She wanted to drop to the ground again, she wanted to cry. It was not the time. She needed to recover certain Lunari texts which the Solari held hostage. She lethargically walked through the courtroom to a door at the other end. This would lead her to the library, she remembered spending much time there once she was demoted to Acolyte. She pushed through the heavy doorway as, her eyes immediately widened at the sight of the armor she saw in the library. That armor was a sign, her now greatest foe, the radiant sun itself, Leona. Her blade dropped to the ground, her entire body shaking. Was this what her nightmare was trying to tell her? She was going to die, and she had dropped her blade. A mistake which caused the Solari warrior to turn around, a radiant grin on her face as she greeted Diana. The Lunari quickly picked her crescent blade up from the ground and stepped back. The Solari's friendly visage was obviously a fake one, Diana turned tail and began to run back through the doorway, into the courtroom, if she was going to do battle, it would not be in that library. Too many precious tomes, she did not seek to spoil them with the Solari's blood. Leona cocked a brow and gave a confused look as she carelessly walked through the heavy doors with relative ease. She looked around as the Lunari finally showed herself, pointing her Moonsilver blade at Leona as her voice boomed through the courtroom. "You seek to kill me, I seek to kill you. Our first, and final battle is here. Raise your weapon Solari, I hope you will not pull any punches, no mercy." "Diana, please. I do not seek your death, I wish to talk. The past is behind us, we can reason things out. I, for one, think your idea of uniting the two tribes was a spectacular idea. It is a shame the elders were much too caught up in old ways to care about it. But, as sad as I am to say this, they are no more. They cannot restrict you any longer, and I certainly do not wish to restrain your beliefs, so please, let us be reasonable here-" "There is no reasoning, Solari warrior. Now, raise your weapon!" "Diana, listen to me! I do not wish to hurt you, I believe we can help eachother. Please-" Diana, with great swiftness, rushed at Leona, her crescent blade running straight through the Solari's stomach. Leona's eyes widened as she looked down, armor pierced, along with her flesh. Blood dripped from her mouth, and she grinned. She pulled herself closer to Diana, the Lunari's strangely shaped blade caused the wound to grow larger, but Leona no longer felt it. Her heart broken, there was nothing left. With only a whisper, Leona spoke, "If this is how it is, then may our tribes end together." She dropped her shield and gave Diana a strong embrace as the Solari's Zenith blade ran through Diana's gut, both of them dropping to their knees, falling to the floor. "You..." Diana choked, coughing up a considerable amount of blood as she attempted to pull herself off of the Solari's blade. However, Leona's embrace did not give. Tears ran down both of their faces, it seemed they both had respect for eachother, of course Diana would not admit that. "It is okay, Diana. At worst, we'll bleed out and the Institute will discover us, at some point. At best? Pantheon will find us. But, I want to take these final moments to tell you, you are a respectable warrior, even moreso a scholar. I would never want to be your foe, Diana, but please, the next time you see me, do not attempt to kill me. We are not foes, despite what Lunari and Solari texts say, our warriors do not have to fight over the spotlight. The moon and sun share the skies, one is always beaming down somewhere in the world." The Solari let out a soft chuckle as her skin seemed to grow pale. There was a considerable amount of blood pooling onto the ground, from both of their forms. "...Tch. I can guarantee nothing..." She chuckled along with Leona as she began to shiver. Life is certainly cold without the warm essence of blood flowing within you, life is certainly non-existent without such essence.
