Lani relaxed in her bed, staring up at the ceiling. There was something wrong, though she couldn’t put her finger on what. The Viera had been to almost every country on the three continents in the area, even having a scholar friend who’d gotten her access to visit Sharlayan. But today, it felt like all her adventures added up to naught, and she wasn’t sure why. 15 years prior, she’d been more of a risk-taker, even being brave enough to eat not one, but four corrupt crystals on a dare. She was lucky their inherent volatility didn’t kill her then and there, but then again, it had been ages since the last Umbral Calamity. She wouldn’t be there to see the next one, right? But that line of thought was wrong. Ten years later, Lani had noticed that the red moon, Dalamud, had been moving closer and closer to the world, and eventually, it broke open, and the corrupt crystals in her body activated. Her body suddenly swelled out like a balloon, and she would have floated off if not for the trees above blocking her ascent. The rest of it was a blur, but all she remembered was waking up on the ground, an unfamiliar bracelet on her wrist and a handwritten note on her now massive chest. The note explained that the bracelet, as well as the new top she was wearing, were to help her pass in public, and she took it in stride. It had been five years since that day, and since then, she’d set out to explore the world. Abandoning her traditional name as most Viera did, she took on the name Lani. It was a cute name, she thought, and one to be proud of. Since then, she traveled for fun, taking on various odd jobs to raise the gil to live. Her breasts also provided a source of income, after she discovered the fact that they could spray milk at an incredibly high rate. Selling it didn’t hurt at all, even if it made her embarrassed. And all that led up to today. Lani left her room, walking down the hall and leaving the tavern the inn was located inside. Limsa Lominsa was once a city of pirates, but in recent times, they’d been trying to move away from this swashbuckling past. More travelers were coming by due to this, some of the more common kind being folks with a particular thirst, one that couldn’t be satiated at the Drowning Wench. Sometimes, Lani felt like one of these people, but she wondered, was her curse part of that? Leaving the city gave her the peace and quiet she was looking for. Moraby Bay was a nice spot with a beautiful view of the ocean. The isle of Vylbrand had always been one of her favorite places, despite her forest upbringing. She’d been able to cross the sea from Thanalan without issue thanks to her curse, her body acting as her own personal airship, but looking out over the ocean from here, it still looked so vast. Was this curse really that bad, if she could travel distances such as that with no issue? The Viera continued northwards, passing by a tall beacon. Soon, she arrived at Costa del Sol, a small settlement that had been developed in a way so that it resembled the islands further south of Vylbrand. The gentle sound of the waves splashing along the shore, the soft sand, the late night, and the long walk all compounded, and Lani came to realize how tired she was getting. She hid, swapping out her pants for a more beach-friendly tanga, and sat down on the sand, thinking. Was her curse really that bad? It had provided enough money to help her make a living, not to mention a nice method of travel. Floating through the sky wasn’t all that bad either, the size only served to increase how sensitive her skin was, in a good way. Not to mention it made her body lightweight, which helped with the fact that she fought using the power of a dragoon. And the feeling of her breasts growing huge when she hadn’t let out milk in some time… It was amazing. That’s when she looked to her left, and saw something huge. A giant corrupted crystal jutted out of the ground in the distance. This was around the Castrum Occidens area, a Garlean stronghold built over a fragment of Dalamud embedded in the ground. The crystal forming after the moon fragment… It was similar to the crystals in Lani’s body activating after the moon fell. And yet, it was a beautiful sight. That’s something she’d never imagined she’d ever think… This view was the last thing she needed to fuel her realization. She didn’t hate what the crystals had done to her body. There were downsides, but they were outweighed by a combination of circumventions, upsides to it all, and the way she felt when under the effects. Was it really a curse? No, she thought. This aetherial defect was one of the best things that had ever happened to her. A smile formed on her face, as she stared towards the sunrise. …Had she really been up all night thinking about this? She shook her head, finding it fitting. The sun rising on both the land, and her new look on life. …Yeah. It was nice. She closed her eyes, the sound of the waves washing away her regret as she drifted off to sleep.
