Background: Originating, from the depths of one’s emotions, as long as emotions, positive or negative have existed, so have they. They travel the galaxy and concurrent universes, infecting minds, not differentiating between old and young. Historically however, unlike their prey, their generations progress at that, much longer than a human’s, but fall much short of the Giant squirrel. The estimate is at 120 years vs. the human 20, pitted against 120 vs. the millennia for the Squirrel. They seek to wreak havoc wherever they are present and are relentless in pursuit of new minds.  
Targets and Tactics: Their common targets are non proficient or vice versa magic users, and young children. Magic is to will as Emotion is to logic, there is conflict. Will is a more stable and absolute form of power expression, granting vast defenses against such vile beasts. Magic bests will in most areas but is, even under the most proficient mage, unstable such as emotions. The vast power wielded is not proper controlled by many, and is often channeled into other forms. Sharing Similarities to emotions, Dementia Beasts or lords can exploit any weakness they find relatively easily, because like them, a nerve can be struck.    
Dementia attacks are rarely ever done directly from consciousness or in physical form, instead preferring to attack sleeping targets while they dream. Minds who come under attack are typically struck by the lords of Iomia, Mares, or Teorr(For disorder lording see Dementia Lords section) although it is still possible to be attacked by any other lord.

Infliction Chain: The infliction chain is a simple Hierarchal systems compromising of three branches: Lords, Beasts, and Horrors.  
Affliction is defined by the species  
Lords- Are the root of any affliction and by far the most powerful in the entire chain. Due to the severity of augmentation, should be engaged by Ace or any other metaphysical being, lest they risk exposure and corruption.

Beasts: Simple henchmen, far outnumbering their lord counterparts and offering more diversity as well. Can be engaged by any capable figher, prolonged exposure however may lead to affliction.

Horrors: Suffering from prolonged exposure, or assimilation, the Horror is exactly its name. The horror is a mixing of any sentient species with the essence of Dementia. Its body parts and internal organs are shafted, making room for grotesque changes, all while preserving the subject to live a life of ever intense pain. This creature can be engaged by any capable fighter.

Iomia(Insomnia; Narcolepsy): Although the last lord to ever come into existence, Iomia is the most potent for Willed species. Her presence disrupts activity in the mind, causing many a sleeper to awake or sometimes to sleep forcefully. Without the aid of so much as NREM sleep, the target becomes incredibly disoriented, not being able to heal itself through sleep. After several days the target will collapse, suffering violent attacks and physical reactions as a result of Dementia’s hostile takeover. Eventually the target passes away, its vital functions not able to sustain themselves, and the soul is harvested, tortured, and used to fuel dementia’s spread. True form, for being able to disrupt their enemy’s main source of power is a squirrel; female.   

Mares(Nightmare): Should Iomia be overcome or outright rejected, Mares can usually appear. Mares attacks any active part of the brain during sleep and is most powerful during REM sleep, when he is able to create Vivid nightmares, which terrify the subject. Mares is the least lethal of all the lords, usually used as a scare tactic or inhibitor. True form is Rabid dog; male.

Teorr(Night terror): More advanced than Mares, Teorr is adept at attacking in the stages of NREM sleep and has far greater physical consequences for the afflicted. Teorr’s attack is ghastly vivid rendering the afflicted helpless even after achieving an awake state. Often targets young children, can be fatal(not in real life though.). True form is an Arachnid; Male

Hypodris(Somatoform/Hypochondria): Best described as a physical Illusion, because that is basically it. Soform’s appearance can trick any pair of eyes to send imaginary messages to the brain, causing the subject to ail, but for no physical reason. In extreme cases can be severe, and thinking about death…well may just end up being so. The true form is a jaguar; male

Siza(Schizophrenia): Contrary to popular belief, Siza does not embed herself into one’s mind as a separate voice or figure. Siza instead focuses on entropy of cognitive skills such as speaking, writing, sight and some others. The True form is a Naga; Female

Multias(Multiple personalities): Multias is the one in charge of of causing civil war in an active mind, by “inserting” himself in the minds of others, causing undue stress and a possibly dangerous, entity to evolve within. The true form is a Hawk; male

Ediacine(Clinical Depression; Bi-Polar Disorder)\*these 2 are not the same---Ediacine is one of the most lethal, if only because she herself has can do little to kill an actual being. She searches deep within one’s mind, pulling out or even creating memories of vast pain, and sadness. She is also capable of altering one’s mood between the extremes at any given time. True form is Wolf; Female

Gris(Alzheimer’s): Rarest and most devastating of the lords, no death knows a more sadistic way. Slowly accumulating in one’s mind, and killing off neurons, grey matter is introduced, inducing decay. The subject slowly begins to die, slowly but surely, forgetting memories, and biological functions such as thinking, walking, eating, and even the involuntary functions such as breathing and heartbeat. Among most species the percentage afflicted hovers little over 1%, for the Squirrels who do constant battle with dementia, the number is a shocking 10%. The true form is a dragon; male.

The beasts and Horrors vary on land, necessity, and negative feelings present.

All lords can naturally induce phobia at will.  
All lords can also shift into a human form for combat if needed.
