In deep space there was an old debris field left over from a war. A war fought only recently, but scavengers were often interested in leavings of war. These old ship parts floating about, most of the time were just junk. Any expensive pieces might have been totally destroyed by cannon fire or an EMP shorting out all the circuits. But there were still goods intact. Maybe a vacuum sealed crate of fresh food, boxes of ammunition, even weapons could be recovered. But, on this particular recovery mission the scavengers would find something that they would rather not. Among the group there was a dragon, a dark blue dragon. His name was Devin He was with this crew for personal reasons that did not concern treasure. He was quite a bit older than the rest of the crew almost twice as old as any member, his age was seventy-one. Though sounding old to most, for a dragon seventy-one is nothing he still felt as young as he did when he hatched out of his egg. He was very agile and a great space jumper using a jet pack attached to his back for thrust he jumped from piece of debris to the next. The pieces of debris ranged from the size of a pebble, to the size of a house. Devin came to this huge piece of debris which had a room still intact. The door was sealed so he had to use a plasma cutter to open it. It took him a few minutes, but he was finally in. There in the room was a computer. Devin went to it and set of a small device which provided the computer with power. He was able to boot up the computer and began searching the files within it. He agreed to go with this group of scavengers because they were looking through a ship which had a friend of his on it. Long ago he himself found himself caught up in the war, he did not so willingly because he was a pacifist and avoided enlisting to fight. But he found that the only employment he could find were to help the war effort, he even worked as a spy once and was totally unaware that he even was a spy. So he eventually found himself in a prison there he met a friend. That friend was on the very ship that Devin was space jumping on, when that friend died. Devin was on the ship to find anything that was left of his friend pictures, personal affects, a body. When he saw how torn up the ship was he was sure he would not find anything. But a functioning computer gave him hope. There he hacked the files and found it. He found something that his friend had left behind. It was the video logs that the friend had made his entire time in the military. Devin happily selected the first video to play and was shocked at the first image it showed. His friend was sitting at the desk the very desk he now sat which gave him an eerie feeling and the young wolf was staring at might have been an heirloom a necklace with a star at the end of it. The wolf’s right hand where he held the star was bleeding, puncture wounds which looked self inflicted from holding the star too hard. Devin stared at the image in the screen, he couldn’t help but smile to the see face of his old friend. Even though the look on the wolf’s face was not so happy. He looked miserable. Devin’s big smile quickly faded, this might not be the best video to start off with. It’s obvious that his friends was in pain. The star he held was the sar that was worn on a necklace by all the soldiers of Iness. Iness was what the group of planets that made a pact with one another for the sake of the war. This was going to be a somber video log. The wolf had just starred at the star in his hand for while, it had been almost a minute. It seemed that he didn’t know what to say. Until he did. “He’s gone.” The wolf whispered. “Max is gone. We...” he paused and shuddered obviously holding back so much emotion. “We were supposed to do these logs every day, Max always...” he paused again this time time he chuckled nervously “he always got on me about doing these. He always told me this was daily, I shouldn’t put these off. oh Max I’m so sorry” He swallowed. “Heh, even when you're gone I seem to be constantly asking you to forgive me. But how could you forgive me after that. You saved my life and when the opportunity came for me to save your I let you down. Max I’m sorry.” The wolf put his hand over the camera to cover the fact that he was sobbing. Devin without knowing who his friend was talking about began to cry along with him. “I need...I need to be more detailed about what happened today.” The wolf said. “I don’t know how much more detail I can give than our shoulder cameras recorded. But, I need to not for the military for myself this is for me.” Again he swallowed. “We were in a dogfight with the dragons they were overpowering. Their ships were faster and more dangerous. We had no way of fighting them, none of us could do anything against them. Except for Max. Max has took to this life much faster than I had I suppose. I think of all of us, he was the only one out of the squadron that knock a few birds out of the sky. But it didn’t matter we were outnumbered. my ship received fire and I was going down. There was a nearby planet I hoped I could land safely there, but the asshole who shot me decided to follow! He kept firing on me, he wouldn’t give me a break. My ship was damaged so anything I dodged I only did out of luck, my ship was handling so clumsily. Then Max saw me. He left the battle to come to my aid. With me distracting the dragon, Max was able to make a fatal blow to the ship. But, the dragon shot again out of spite hitting me again. This time I was through. I couldn’t land that bird if I tried. So I found my only choice was to emergency eject. But, the cockpit hood wasn’t coming up! the last few blasts had welded the metal together. Max asked me what the trouble was and if he could help. When I told him, he suggested that he shoot the hood open. But I would have to turn off the shielding. Given that I had no choice you see I let him. I trusted him. So he did and he was successful, but he was flying too close to my ship and his ship got damaged as well. So he too had to eject. We were both there in the air white billowy parachutes to keep us from going down too hard. He had ejected slightly higher than me and I smiled to him as we fell slowly to the ground. But it was not over. At that moment one of the ship’s fuel cell blew and the explosion was powerful enough to through some pretty heavy projectiles. I was fine, but Max’s parachute got damaged. He fell quickly, but I acted quickly. I was fast enough to reach out and pull Max in. I hand him by his hand. and as we went down I told him...” The wolf paused for a moment and sighed. “I told him I wouldn’t let go. But I... I couldn’t hold on he slipped and one slip was all it took” The wolf looked up at the camera “That’s it. I’m not giving anymore. the recovery team can tell you what happened after that. I already recorded the important parts.” The camera was shut off and that was the end of the video. Devin just stared into the screen, he almost clicked on the next video, but was interrupted. “Devin have you found anything” a racoon in a spacesuit much like devins said standing behind him. “No, ” Devin said. As he did he slipped into his pocket a storage device he had been downloading the vlogs onto.
