Sonic POV 3rd person 

Silver left. And at that time, Kytra and Brian walked into the Main Room of Operations while surveying the area, taking everything in since they were new and hadn’t had much of a chance to when first arriving. Seeing the blue hedgehog, they waved and headed over to him.

“Long time no see. It feels like foreveeer since we’ve last seen each other.”

Chuckling, Sonic went along with her shenanigans, as it had only been a few hours ago, “Yep, it sure does.”

“Who are these two?” The red echidna by Sonic spoke up.

The jade bird of the group answered, “I’m Brian and this is my sister Kytra.”

“They’re both Gadget’s siblings,” Sonic chimed in.

“Oh! Nice to meet you both. I’m Knuckles, the Commander. You’re brother, the Rookie as he gets called by some, has been a huge help.”

“That’s our Gadget!” Kytra beamed with pride.

“Say,” Brian cut in, changing the subject, “We spoke with Amy this morning. And she mentioned a large scale attack yesterday. She said Gadget was physically fine, but that she thought something happened while out in the field, but didn’t know what. Did something happen yesterday?”

Knuckles and Sonic glanced at each other briefly in thought, as if deciding the best thing to do. Just then, Knuckles’ communicator beeped.

“Looks like something came up. Sonic, how about you take them into the office behind us? That’d be a good place to talk, and who knows, they might even be able to help us.”

Puzzlement settled on the two faces, but they didn’t question anything as they followed the hero into the office. With them there, Knuckles walked over to the main computer before bringing up a scratchy video feed of Rouge the Bat and Shadow the Hedgehog.

“Hey guys. Been awhile since I’ve heard from you two. What’s up?”

“Bad news I’m afraid,” the bat replied with a frown on her lips.

“What happened?”

“We just ran into the other dimension Sonic,” Shadow started, “And Tails has been captured.”

“What?!”

“The other Sonic is on his way back now,” Rouge confirmed, “And he’ll be bringing a data disk with him. It’s from… Infinite.”

“The Sonic of this time needs to see it,” the dark hedgehog went into detail, “We tried to see if we could figure out the location ourselves but that didn’t work out.”

“We’re hoping Sonic might know more. We couldn’t pinpoint the location from trying to track the message, or by the message’s contents. I doubt it’s supposed to be just handed to us.”

“What do you mean?” The Commander asked.

“You’ll know when you see it,” she answered, “We’re going now to see if we can figure anything out. Later!”

The communication was cut. As that happened, Sonic had been speaking with the two siblings. He explained that Gadget was thought to be destroyed in Metropolis, only, he hadn’t been.

“You’re saying the bad guys nabbed our bro,” Brian repeated, “And kept him locked up, not quite in a dungeon like they did you, but just, a bedroom? In a place called Null Space?”

“Yep, that about sums up that part.”

“But, why?”

“That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” Sonic explained.

“Couldn’t he just tell you? Or does he not know,” the feline inquired.

“I’m pretty sure he knows why,” the hero replied, “I brought him back here two nights ago from Nullspace. He wanted to talk to me, but seemed nervous to, like maybe scared? I’m not sure. But, he said he had to talk to me, so we had planned on talking yesterday morning. That’s when the attack that Amy mentioned occurred. It was a full out assault. Everyone we had available had to go, so Gadget and I hadn’t had the chance to talk beforehand.”

“So, what happened in the city?” Brian asked.

“Everyone was in different units. Gadget was in the one that went through the city to destroy enemies while citizens were being rescued. That unit wasn’t traveling together because the city was too large, so they all traveled separately. And, Infinite found Gadget in the city.”

“Oh shit!” Kytra yelled out, “That’s like, Egghead’s right hand man, right? I heard about him from one of the guys here.”

“Correct,” the hedgehog nodded, “But, it wasn’t just a simple fight, or Infinite trying to kill him. Gadget couldn’t tell me the details, but initially, Infinite sent bad guys to chase Gadget through the city. The moment Gadget was out of city limits, they stopped. And, anyone who tried to stop those guys essentially got kicked out of the way.”

“Wait,” Brian cut in, confusion on his beak, “Are you saying that he was singled out? Is that what happened?”

“It sounds like a game to me,” the cat replied.

Brian have her a deadpan expression, “Game? Really?”

“What? He had a certain location he had to get to before getting caught, and if anyone interrupted the game, they would get the shit kicked out of em.”

“I agree.”

“What?!” 

“I think Infinite made Gadget partake in a game. I don’t know how or why.”

“Why doesn’t Gadget just tell us what happened?”

“It’s not that Gadget doesn’t want to tell us, but that he can’t.”

The emerald colored Mobian gave a puzzled expression, “Okay, I’m confused.”

“Infinite put some kind of mark on his neck where anytime Gadget tries to tell us something that Infinite doesn’t want him to share, it’ll put him in extreme pain. When he tried to tell us last night what happened in the city, he fell on the floor...screaming in agony. Tails, a friend of mine who was there, found a glowing infinity symbol on his neck.”

“Damn…” Brian breathed out in shock.

Kytra, on the other hand, looked ready to commit murder, “That son of a bitch hurt my bro!”

“Chill Kytra!” Brian spoke, being her voice of reason, “Any idea what he knows?”

“None,” Sonic shook his head, “I don’t know if he found something in Metropolis before getting taken or what happened. What’s also odd was that instead of killing him, a mark was put on him to keep him quiet.”

“Gadget…” she held downcast eyes before feeling an arm around her shoulders.

“It’s okay sis. He’s safe, and with us.”

“But for how long?” Kytra glanced between them, “How long is he safe for? This is war. He won’t be able to hide away in here forever.”

“I know. I wish I knew what to do,” Sonic frowned, “I did have a question I wanted to ask you both. I’m not sure if it’ll help at all or not, but I was more curious because of the lack of information.”

“Alright, shoot.”

“In Gadget’s file, I know all of you were adopted, but there’s no details of before the adoption.”

“Could it have just been lost in the war?” Brian questioned.

The cat shook her head, “Nah, I bet it has to do with the orphanage being burned down.”

“Burned down?” A blue ear twitched in question.

“Oh yeah!” The bird replied, “About a month after Gadget was adopted, his orphanage burned to the ground. Wasn’t it an electrical issue?”

“Yep, that’s what the news peeps said.”

“Where was that at?”

“It was…”

A few knocks sounded at the door, halting the conversation. All three looked in question as Sonic walked over and opened it.

“Knuckles?”

The trio noticed instantly something was off.

“Sonic. You might wanna come see this.”

“Can we come?” Kytra asked.

Surprise filtered on the Commander’s face before quickly disappearing, “That’s fine. I’m sure everyone will know about this soon enough anyway.”

“Lead the way.” And they all left the office.

Option 2: Continue 

Gadget POV 3rd person 

After breakfast and relaxation in the room, the duo snuck out as to not be caught by the other jackals. They succeeded and made it to the lake they always hung out at three years ago. When making it to the water, the two sat beside a tree near the calming waves.

They stayed there for some time; relaxing, chatting, playing, teasing, and even some kissing and touching. A walk had been thought of, but never happened as the sun moved up towards the center of the sky, meaning lunchtime was near.

“You know,” Zero started as he got to his feet and stretched, before extending a hand to the sitting wolf, which was gladly taken and he stood. “We always come to this tree. I feel like there’s never anyone else around when we come here.”

“I think it’s because it’s kind of hidden away from the main attractions of this area.”

“Is that why you brought us here when we first came to the lake?”

Gadget nodded, “You were going to teach me self-defense at the time, so I thought it’d be better if we had a more secluded spot. Plus, I liked having somewhere just you and I could go.”

Smiling, Zero wrapped his arms around the other’s shoulders, “Yeah. A place just for the two of us.”

“I remember you started calling it that after we confessed our feelings.”

“It’s true,” the jackal scratched one of the wolf’s ears, a blissed noise escaping him, “A place the two of us could come to, at anytime, and never be bothered. It’s like, it was made, just for us.”

“Zero…” Gadget whispered, “This feels really good. You should probably stop so we can get some lunch though.”

“Alright, but I’ll continue this later,” Zero purred into Gadget’s ear, making the little wolf shiver.

“Z-Zero.”

“Okay, I’ll stop... for now.” 

Stepping away, he offered his hand, and fingers interlaced as they left their secret spot and walked back into town. The rest of the day consisted of strolling around, snacking, and just enjoying each other’s company. 

The day flew by too fast and it was now evening as the duo finally made it back to their room for the night. Gadget jumped back onto the bed.

“Today was great!”

“Good,” Zero smirked before crawling on top of the lying down male, making him blush. “Shy already?”

“N-no!”

“Liar,” he licked Gadget’s neck.

“Hey-y!”

“Wanna shower with me?”

Tan muzzle turned red as a tomato, “What?!”

“Shower with me,” the jackal requested again, “I mean, it’s not like we wear clothes all the time anyway, and I’ve already played with your dick.”

Embarrassment filtered on the wolf’s face, “S-stop!”

“Cutie.” A deep throaty chuckle sounded, “Can we though? Whether you choose to travel with us or not, I’m not sure if we’ll get many chances to later.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, the only reason I had my own room here is because the other dumb heads weren’t supposed to be coming with me. In the other locations, we planned to share a room.”

“Isn’t that kind of hard with five jackals?”

“Well, we get rooms with two beds and hopefully a sofa. So, it’d be two per bed.”

“You share a bed with someone?”

“Jealous?” Was asked with a smug grin and earning himself a glare, “And no. I always take the couch.”

Gadget pinched his cheek, “You’re ridiculous.”

“I know,” the jackal suddenly stood. Puzzled, the wolf stared, but didn’t have to wait long to know why he left the bed before being lifted up; Zero holding Gadget bridal style.

“Zero!”

“Let’s go shower.”

“You…!”

Lips covered his, and left as quickly as it happened, “You’ll enjoy it. Promise.”

“...O-Okay.”

Zero walked them in, careful to not hit Gadget on the doorway, or anything in the bathroom, before gently setting him down on his feet. He turned on the shower head and began to test the water since it was currently cold, while Gadget removed his gloves. Both males had already taken their clothes and shoes off when coming back to the room, and Zero removed his gloves around that time as well, so they were ready for the shower.

With Zero’s back to him, Gadget couldn’t help but stare, taking in the curves and angles available to him. Zero was extremely good looking, and it was no wonder he’d been flirted with already during the trip by someone else. Muscles rippled along his shoulder blades, and white streaks at various spots of the body helped compliment his shape, making him that much more appealing to look at. 

Gadget was deeply in love with the male that stood before him as he continued to wait for the water to warm up. The way Zero treated him, how kind and sweet he was but also teasing him in a flirtatious way, it was no wonder he fell so hard.

Nothing more was said as Gadget continued his attention there for a bit longer. However, when reaching lower, he decided to move in front of the jackal instead. At the changed position, Zero looked briefly at him in question, but it quickly faded as lips traveled along his chest.

His actions ceased, “Let’s get in the shower. I bet it’s warm now.”

“Let me check,” though Gadget now stood between him and the shower, he wrapped one arm around his waist so he wouldn’t topple over since Zero had to move extremely close so his fingers could reach the water droplets. “It’s ready.”

They stepped in.

Practically attacking, Gadget shoved Zero against the side wall, opposite of the glass door they entered through, allowing water to spray on both of them, and fiercely locked his lips on the other’s, earning himself a surprised, but pleased moan. Arms hastily surrounded the smaller frame as the two pushed back and forth in ecstasy.

“Haha! Thank you Zero!” Gadget hugged him back, “I’m so excited! Thank you for allowing me to come.”

“Of course you’re allowed to silly. You’re my love. I’ll never say no to having you by my side.”

They kissed, completely uncaring of the sprinkling water drops that turned cold; happiness warming their hearts at the fun filled adventure that awaited them.
