It was an afternoon a lot like most others in April on Mason Island, the trees were getting their leaves, the flowers were blooming, and in many places couples were either in the process of starting families or welcoming their offspring into the world. The family consisted of 37-year old Drake, 36-year old Jessica, and their 13-year old son Austin.  Drake was originally from Fox Valley City, which is about 50 miles to the northeast of Amber. If he got the job, his annual income would more than triple and Jessica would finally be able to quit working part-time at the "P, T, and A Ranch", where she still worked some days when Austin was in school for extra money.
