6. The Redroux bar. Compared to the place Deyna had stayed the night before, the outside seemed very quiet. The bar looked small from the outside, a small lit up sign hanging over the wooden door, a small window to the left of the door letting out light into the dark street. The buildings either side of it looked uncared for, and derelict, though Deyna felt like someone was watching them. The bar seemed like the only place that had any signs of life as Deyna looked around the street it was in. His paw was resting on his dagger, it made him feel a little safer. Xander noticed the otter's eyes, darting around. He smiled a little and let out a soft laugh. "Haha, no need to be nervous." Deyna gripped his dagger a little tighter. "I'm not really nervous, this place just gives me a bad feeling." Xander nodded a little. "Understandable really. This place is where the thieves like to roam about. The bar is known for its...rather shady characters shall we say." They stopped outside the door to the bar. "Doesn't seem like the safest place to set up a meeting around here." Deyna said. Xander smiled again. "That may be true. However, the person we are meeting today is a thief himslef, so he knows this neighbourhood better than anyone. Having him as a wings member comes in handy for information gathering. They hear things others don't. Shall we?" The otter and the mouse walked into the bar. A strong smell of alcohol and smoke hot the otter's nose, making him let out a small cough. The bar was half full, most of the bar's occupants were surrounding the piano in the corner, a tipsy old otter sailor playing it, and the crowd singing a rowdy sea shanty. Xander nodded at the wolf behind the bar, who nodded back, jerking his head to the left at a small table near the back where a figure could be seen through the haze of smoke. Xander led Deyna to the table. "Good to see you again Silver" Xander said as he sat down, motioning Deyna to take the seat next to him. Silver looked at Xander then to Deyna. Silver was a hare, hos fur a light shade of silver, fitting, Deyna thought to himself. His eyes were a shining blue, his ears upright, the left one pierced with a blue earing at the tip. He was dressed in a dark travelling cloak which was long enough to cover his whole body, black gloves covering his paws, his feet bare as Deyna noticed his toes poking out fron the cloak. Deyna judged him to be around the same age as himself. "You too Xander" he smiled, before fixing Deyna with a stare. "Can he be trusted?" was all he asked. Xander nodded. "He can." "Forgive me, but I am a little nervous about tonight after all." the hare said as he leaned forward towards them. "You don't trust the person we're meeting?" Silver shook his head. "No, I've done deals with him before, but he is trustworthy. However, with what tonights meeting entails, I have a feeling that something is going to happen." Deyna looked at both of them. "So what exactly are we doing, and what do you mean by a deal?" Silver lifted a finger towards Deyna. "Shush. All in good time my dear otter. All you need to know right now is that a meeting is being held, and that your coming as additonal security. Once it is all done and we are back at the hideout safely, then we can talk about what it is we have, or rather will have." Deyna let out a slightly frustrated sigh. Xander smiled at him. "Annoying I know, but trust him Deyna, even I don't know what this deal is about. But I trust Silver, he's never let us down ever, and for a thief, he's very loyal to the wings." "Silver smiled and nodded, standing up and pulling the hood of the cloak over his head. Deyna judged his height to be slightly taller than him. "Well, time to go I think. The meeting spot isn't far from here, I'll lead the way." The three of them left the bar with silver leading the way. The hare lead them down the street then turned into an alleyway, walking in silence the whole time. Silver turned to the left, to the right and then right again, keeping to side streets and alleyways the whole time, Deyna was starting to find it hard to keep track of where they were going, the place was like a maze. Finally Silver stopped, the last alley had led them to a small enclosed area, completely cut off from the main streets, and quiet enough to hear a pin drop. Silver lowered his hood, looking around. "Ok, this is the place. He should be here any minute now." Deyna looked around. He felt a little nervous, it felt like they were being watched. His paw resting on his dagger again. Movement from the corner made him unsheath his dagger quickly, then he felt Silver's paw against his. "Steady mister otter. Hark, who cometh?" he said aloud. "Darkness and shadow, I bring!" came the reply. Silver smiled and walked forward as a wolf stepped towards them, his palms held in a gesture of peace. He was weaing a similar cloak to Silver. "Your friend I presume?" asked Xander in a quiet voice. Silver nodded, gesturing them to come forward too. "Yeah, this is him. You alone Tam?" The wolf nodded. "I made sure no one saw me coming here, but we need to get this done quickly. I'm more than a little nervous. Who are these?" Silver looked around before answering. "Friends, I brought them just as a precaution. You have it?" The wolf pulled out a small wooden box from inside his dark cloak. "This is it. Took me a while but I managed to get what you were looking for. Wasn't easy mind you!" Silver took out a bag that jingled slightly. "Take this for your troubles, there's a thosand Lyan in there" he said, holding the bag out. Tam took the bag, handing over the box to Silver. "Thanks, pleasure doing business with you as al-" A sharp whistling noise filled the air for just a second, then Tam fell to the floor, a knife sticking through his chest, his heart pierced. Deyna whirled around to see three figures coming towards them, all hooded , thier faces covered in red maskes with gold symbols, all holding a red small sword. Two more were coming towards them from where Tam had came from, boxing them in. The three of them backed into each other. Xander felt Silver pushing the box into his paws. "Alright, here's the plan. Xander, on three I want you to start running back to HQ, don't look back or don't stop till you get there. Deyna and I will take care of things here and we'll meet you there. OK?" he said in a quick whisper. Xander nodded, Deyna reading himslef, twirling his dagger. "Good, Deyna, we attack the ones behind us first for Xander, one...two...THREE!" he shouted, jumping high then using his powerful legs to kick at the masked creatures, Deyna flying forward at speed attacking with his dagger. The sudden attack suprised the masked enemies, as two of them fell in the onslaught, Xander quickly darting down the alley. The suprise didn't last long, Deyna and Silver fell back as they blocked and attacked with their swords, Silver pulling out his own weapon, a steel dagger from his cloak. "Time to see how good you are with that dagger Deyna." "I could say the same to you! Charge!" Deyna ran towards two of the enemies, dodging their thrusts and blocked with his dagger, kicking out at one with a footpaw in the stomach. The creature fell with a gasp, Deyna ducked to avoid the others swipe with his sword. Silver jumped high again and landed right in the middle of the group of three, stabbing one with his dagger right in the back. As the creature fell, he ducked to dodge the other two swords, which hit each other with a loud clang. Using this distarction, he swiped with his dagger at them, felling another as the remaing enemy backed off, holding his sword warily at the hair. Deyna had been backed into a corner by the two he was fighting, parrying and blocking their attacks, waiting for an opening to counter. It came as one of the lunged forward, Deyna leant towards the left as the sword narrowly missed his face then stabbed with his dagger into the side of the creature. He fell to the ground, his companion now backing off as Deyna upped his attack. Silver was still fighting with his attacker, trying his best to counter too, however this one was much more wary, blocking each of the hare's attacks. The creature suddenly swiped forwards, knocking the hare's dagger out of his hands. Silver kicked out with his right footpaw, then gasped out in pain. Silver had kicked against the creature's rists, knocking the sword out of his hands but cutting the bottom of his foot open at the same time. However the thief was not one to be distracted easily. Quickly acting, he fell to the ground, rolled and picked up the creatures sword, throwing it back. The creature cried out in pain as it pierced its stomach, falling to the ground. Deyna could see that the enemy he was fighting was getting tired from the otters attack, he was forcing him to constantly block and parry. The creature made a desperate attack, swiping his sword right towards Deyna's face. Deyna ducked quickly, sliding his dagger upwards, slicing the enemies neck. The creature's paws went straight to it's neck, gurgling one last time as he fell. Deyna was panting heavilly, looking around to see if there were any remaing attackers. Seeing none, he sheathed his daggerand looked over at Silver, who was sitting on the floor, wincing slightly as he looked at his footpaw, the silver fur stained red with his blood. Deyna ran over to him. "Your wounded!" Silver winced and smiled slightly. "Haha, just a little scratch, nothing to be bothered about." Deyna knelt, lifting Silver's footpaw, The cut was pretty deep and bleeding, it went right from the centre of his foot and ended just below his toes. The otter walked over to one of the fallen enemies. Ripping a peice off it's cloak, he knelt again by Silver, wrapping it tightly around his footpaw, making the hare wince loudly. "Owwwwww...easy otter." he grimaced. "Sorry, I'm not really much of a healer, it should do though till we get back to the Wings. So, who are these guys?" he asked, helping Silver to his feet. Silver winced, leaning on Deyna for support. "I really don't know. It's obvious they wanted what was in that box. And poor Tam, he didn't deserve this." Deyna knelt again, this time by one of the enemies he had killed. He removed the mask he was wearing. The creature was a male wolf, his eyes still open. The otter gasped a little, his eyes were completely red, a strange gold symbol tattooed into the wolves cheek, similar to the ones on the mask. Silver looked too, a look of worry on his face. "Never seen anything like that ever...gives me the creeps. We should take this mask back with us. My thieves will take care of everything else here." Deyna handed the mask to Silver, who put it safely into his cloak. The pair started to walk slowly, the hare leaning on the otter for support. "So, you gonna tell me what was in that box?" he asked, looking at Silver. The hare winced again before he spoke. "Inside that box, there's a relic...a relic from the gates.
