Laius has been pacing around anxiously once more in the kitchen. Thankfully this time it wasn't about his dirty actions, the officers for early conscription and military service is going to be knocking on his door today. Every Turian served in the military, to serve and being further educated from it. He didn't want either of his kids being registered, it's a high offense if you refuse unless it was due to serious health issues that require a lot of assistance to live. But then the ones who are like that don't normally have kids, and if they did would be taken care of outside help. Laius did go through it years ago along with his friends and Alnia, they all didn't mind it because the teachers were better than the horror stories of other races education. But Laius doesn't want to go back, not after what his wife's parents and his own put him through. He was great at piloting and firing a gun but he didn't like it, even when he tried to flunk the tests he passed and got more points than Alnia. Only because one classmate was scornful of her and sabotaged her to hell. Neither family accepted the "Alnia was sabotaged" notion and took it as a pathetic excuse because sabotage was "impossible" to commit. Alnia's family got angry at him for surpassing their daughter when she was better, enjoyed it and actually tries. Laius's family got angry at him for not doing better enough because his talent that meant he should have been "the best". Then shit hit the ceiling when the two families collided causing a court action to keep certain members away from each other. So when Laius and Alnia courted and married both sides decided to outright disown the both of them. Due to the laws at the time they still had to use one surname so Aldas was kept, but they were thinking of changing it before. Because of the bad experience Laius went through and what the force is getting recruits involved with right now he feared for both his kid's wellbeing's. Particularly Apius after what he has been doing to him. He was going to have to fight for his kids to not register for future enlistment and it wasn't going to be pretty. Laius has heard of the officers carrying weapons on them in order to do their duty of subduing resistance, ever since one family refused causing an uproar that got the two officers killed. He tried to contact his friends for help and or support, but all refused apologetically stating that they would lose their jobs if they did. Laius wasn't prepared for them to lose their way of living, not after what they know all about he and his kids. Because of all this Laius was incredibly strung. "Dad? Are you ok?" Apius spoke up from behind, Laius getting the fright of his life took several steps back and hunched slightly trying to catch his breath. Apius was completely caught off guard by this and was afraid. "I'm! ...fine. Just freaking out about an official visit coming here." He leaned against the counter of then kitchen to sigh. "What? What's that?" "The registers for military service, Apius. They come around every 7 years to families who have unregistered children to be put on record for enlistment in the future." "WHATT? I'm 7, why would they want me to know how to fire a gun?" "It's not now, Apius. When you are 15 they'll be getting you, right now they just want you to be registered." Apius sighed of relief. "But Dad I don't want to serve." "I don't want you to either, I had a feeling you wouldn't want to. I don't want either of you two be forced to serve, I just don't know if I can prevent it." Laius sniffed and rubbed his forehead. "They don't react well to refusal, so Daddy is very nervous about this. They'll be here any minute, when that happens you should keep your sister company. And hope that everything goes well." Apius watched his Dad in worry and held his arms around himself. "I'll be fine, Apius. Just please make sure you and Caetia are alright." Apius nodded and kept still watching his Dad. A knock was heard from the front door causing the both of them to swing their heads towards it anxiously. "Oh no they're here!" "Go and be with Caetia now, Apius." Apius scurried off as Laius approached the front door, his heart thumping with worry. As he opened it he met with two Turian officers. Both had the same black clan marks, only one was smiling but it looked insincere. "Greetings Laius, we're here to register your kids. This will only take a minute and we'll be on our way." Said the Turian who were smiling. Laius's tired eyes looked down and didn't reply at first, he was panicing inside but felt paralyzed. The other Turian noticed the hesitation and assertively spoke up, "Laius Aldas we are here to register your kids. You are by law to assist us registering your children, you aren't resisting are you?" Laius looked up and didn't react. The two Turians looked at each other and grabbed their sidearms to point at his head. "You are refusing to comply and not following the law. This is your last chance or we will have to do this by force." "Please. Don't. I don't want my kids to be registered, they don't want to be registered." Laius spoke up, "You do not have any say in the matter, and what nonsense you are spouting. Grow up Aldas and step aside." "We came here to get this done fast and you are wasting valuable time and planning. Are you sure you want to put your life at risk?" The smiling Turian added. "Isn't there any way to-" As Laius was begging he was punched in the jaw with great force, causing some blood. "I am sick of my kind not having any spine. You think your kids are better off with a poor excuse of a father. You bring shame to us all dammit." Laius's head was ringing from the punch but eventually kept his head still enough to once again face the officers. They smacked him across the cheek with their gun and the other smacked him with theirs along his torso. They got a few more hits on him in their attempt to subdue him until a stomping sound came from behind. "What do you want citizen? We are in the middl-" His words stopped in their tracks in absolute terror. The Turian who was smiling turned around and reacted with a gasp of shock. "You two call yourselves officers beating up an unarmed citizen? One of which is a good friend of mine." Growled a Krogan. Laius looked up to see Thax Krav standing before the two officers. "General Thax! We are simply following our orders and law." One Turian explained, Thax's face got angrier. "Oh sure. Beating a helpless Turian and threatening them is your orders and law." "It's law that Turian children are registered for military enlistment in the future. We are just dealing with resistance." "Well now that I'm here I can overrule your stupid law." He glared at the both of them, "But sir you can't!" "I. ALREADY. HAVE." The other two turians stared in awkwardness as he grabbed an orb, tapped on it to project a document in front of them. "Official overruling, you sad excuse of officers." They read it carefully and sighed in frustration as they now realised he wasn't joking, it was legit. "Now get the hell out of here before I head butt the both of you as much as you hit him." He pushed the orb into the smiling Turian's chest, they grabbed it and walked off muttering in discontentment. "Low life scum, no better than criminals." Thax muttered to himself, he then faced Laius and sighed. Laius went back inside with Thax following, he ordered Laius to sit down on the lounge as he took care of any wounds with his medical gel. In 15 minutes of every minute saying thank you, Laius felt incredibly relieved at his luck and indebted to Thax. After Thax told him to shut up after the 15th thank you Laius went silent. A door opened with Apius and Caetia walking out, seeing a bruised and slightly bloodied father and papa Thax. "Dad!" Apius yelled as he ran to his father. "Thaxy!" Caetia cheers as she runs to him. When she got to Thax she only then noticed her Dad beaten. "Daddy are you ok?" Her concerned voice just hurt, both Apius and Caetia's concerned voices hurt. The injuries were neither here nor there at the end of the day. "Your father got hit by the nasty officers. He stood his ground, cowering but still bravely. Then I came by, sorted them out with some legal documents." Thax knelt down to the two kids, "Your Dad and I just saved you from being registered." Apius's face was relieved and shocked, Caetia cheered even though she didn't know what was going on. "It was all you, Thax." Laius said with a blooded smile, "What a load of crap, you stopped getting them registered. My documents would have meant nothing if it were already done." It felt so good to Laius that he actually did something for his kids, he hugged Apius and waved Caetia to get close for a group hug. "You guys did it!" Apius cheered. Caetia cheering alongside with absolute no understanding, what she did understand was that her Dad and papa Thax did something good. After hugging Caetia kept touching the sores across her father's face, his mandibles twitching in pain but he held his breath and was extra patient. "Daddy should shower the blood away." "Squirt don't touch those wounds." Commanded Thax. Apius pulled her hand away to which she grabbed his and started hugging him. After a little bit the two fell over with Apius hitting the ground first, neither were hurt as Caetia kept giggling as she grappled to her brother Apius kept trying to resist to get her off him. Thax looked down at the two and huffed in amusement. "Could you two run off, play a game or watch a show. Papa Thax wants to talk to your Dad." "Ok-" "No!" Caetia giggled. Thax shook his head and repeated himself once more. After a minute Apius managed to get up to run down the corridor away from the living room causing Caetia to follow screaming as she chased him. Thax sat down next to Laius and cracked his knuckles and sat back relaxed. Laius looked up to him and relaxed back following Thax. He couldn't help but feel nervous around Thax, especially after last time but at least this time they were just chilling. "Thax, thanks again. But how did you know?" "Crius. That overworked sod sent me a message." "Ahh..." He should have known, right now he was feeling more awkward by the second. He hunched over apprehensive of the silence and what could come up. Laius finally relented, sighed and then tried to force a conversation. "So, um. How are you going, Thax?" "Retirement is boring." Thax said dead panned, not an answer Laius was expecting. "Aside from representatives lining up to question me for advice for the simplest of jobs, I have been bored. Jabba jabba jabba. Had this Asari who kept asking question after question with some human who was bent over heels for her." Thax went on, and on, and on about his most tedious days. Laius wasn't really wanting to listen but he did so out of respect. Eventually Thax broke the nonsense of his retirement with, "I regret the day I came here and partook with your son, Laius." He sounded bothered, he couldn't even face Laius. "...I see." He could feel his heart dipper with worry, his mandibles twitched with anticipation of anything to go wrong. "I regret that day, Laius. Worse, I hate that my curiosity took over me that day. You can't go back from that shit and I am compromised in our teacher student relationship. I'm compromised as a soldier, general and teacher." He faced Laius and sighed heavily in frustration, Laius looked at him with worry and shame. "I'm in deep now. I don't want to go into prison where I locked the space trash up so I'm going to be covering my tracks by covering you." He then huffed in bemusement, "I'm more than a Godfather now." "I'm so sorry, Thax." Laius immediately felt a thump across his left-hand side. "It's too late for that, and stop saying sorry dammit. Have you been looking after them better?" "Yes, I believe so." "Know so dammit." "I've been taking them for trips, trying to get them out a bit. Apius made a friend over playing a game and Caetia.. she's been herself." "There's a but coming, isn't there?" "It's just so difficult Thax. I'm trying to do a good job, trying to keep them happy but my own energy is just so... depleted. I need my fix... and I hate that I say it like that. Everyday I'm thinking what I want to do to them and I say 'no' and try to do something for them. One day I viewed something to hope to stop me thinking about my kids, it was so fucked up." "You mean besid-" "Yes besides the whole thing, it was horrible. A boy around Apius's age who was abducted, raped by 2 Turians, a Krogan and a Batarian." "Oh I remember those four." "What!?" "Yeah, it was a pretty big deal at the time that an abduction was conducted in the first place and pictures of the boy was spread to all military headquarters and station for information. Footage was found traversing the net and we got their faces. Their execution was very enjoyable to watch." "...the boy is dead if I recall." Laius pulled his legs in onto the lounge and into himself. "Yeah... we tried to do all we could for him. He committed suicide at the age of 10 by blood loss and drug overdose. We have no idea how he god the drugs but it wasn't pretty." Laius breathe heavily and quivered, he could see his kids in the same fate. He felt Thax's arm around him and felt himself get shaken. "You. Aren't. That. Kind. Of. Person." Thax said sternly. "But their lives are so fragile and anything could happen." Laius wept, his tears dripping down into his wounds. "Then change yourself!" "I can't. I've tried so hard, believe me I'm trying. I just get so miserable, desperate and everything is too much of a chore. I watched that video and I fucking liked it, Thax! If I didn't have a heart I probably would have hurt my kids and I can't live with myself like that." "You are thinking of the ifs and ors, and what could be and what could have happened. What you have done so far is nothing compared to those four monsters. Now if you ever, EVER did anything to hurt your kids for your pleasure I will find out and kill you but I don't believe you are that kind. You have been selfish and indulging in the deprave manner but without torturing your kids. You need to stop thinking the ifs and ors, and get a hold of yourself. Maybe someday you'll be strong enough to stop yourself and change for the better but it will start when you stop sulking and try." The two sat next to each other in silence for a while, Laius has never had his favourite teacher so close to him for so long. A part of him wished he wanted to fuck them, feel like a normal depraved Turian. To do the things everyone else did. But he no matter how hard he tried to love and fantasize about about Thax, his cock and ass it just didn't seem to excite him nearly as much. The two eventually said their goodbyes leaving Laius with his kids at home, he checked on them to see what they were up to and saw them watching a cartoon in his room. He joined them and didn't really say anything, just smiling and hugging his two kids to feel close to them.
